Popular Post Tizeye Posted September 25, 2018 Popular Post Share #1 Posted September 25, 2018 Wife went in for knee replacement surgery today. Dr just briefed and surgery went well, while knee was shot beyond what c rays showed, no complications and replacement fit. Still in first stage of recovery and can join her when goes to second stage before room transfer. was thinking. With a new knee she can now kick my butt. Should I as the Dr to put the old one back in?

smudge ★ Posted September 25, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2018 I saw quite a few people doing PT for knee replacements while I was doing PT for my ACL/MCL. They were doing very well within 2 weeks of PT. Assuming she has a good surgeon, it should be a very good outcome. It's still a major surgery, but they are getting really good at the process. 1

Kirby Posted September 25, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 25, 2018 A good friend just went through a knee replacement, and she's a vocal advocate for making sure you do all the recommended PT. She's also had great results from her surgery.

2Far ★ Posted September 25, 2018 Share #8 Posted September 25, 2018 Do the PT like a Navy SEAL. I set my watch for 1 hour repeats: get up, take a leak, take a lap round the downstairs, do a set of PTs, refill the water bottle, back in the recliner. Take the anti-inflammatories before PT. Stay ahead of the pain.

Forum Administrator Posted September 26, 2018 Share #10 Posted September 26, 2018 My step-mom had it done and loves it. She also says to do all of the PT. Did you look up videos of the surgery? It's brutal.
Tizeye Posted September 26, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted September 26, 2018 Just looked and sorry for all the typos/omissions in the original post. Was done on my iPhone as I had to use cellular while conserving battery for calls. I later found the charging station. Hospital's free wifi was crap, labeled "unsecure network" and no browser - Safari, Chrome, Firefox - would work on the phone, iPad or laptop I had with me, and none had the option to ignore an unsecure network warning. It blocked everything, even the attempt on my laptop to link to my VPN on my home router which I knew would be secure. GRRRRR! Same way with wife's phone when she got to her room. Told her to turn wifi off and only use cellular. Yes, the Dr is good and in the leading orthopedic practice. I would switch to her but the Dr I see is in the same practice and internal switching is more complicated that going elsewhere. Plus, she doesn't do shoulders while mine does knees and shoulders which is my newest issue. Looks like I may end up doing PT for rotator cuff along with my wife. She schedules her surgeries at the end of the month. Took about and hour and half...and this was her third of the day. Stated would check in on wife at 6:30 this morning, then clarified why so early as she has surgery starting at 7AM.
smudge ★ Posted September 26, 2018 Share #12 Posted September 26, 2018 Hey man, no worries about typos. When your spouse is having surgery and you are the person passing on info and updates, it can get a little crazy. Unfortunately, I know all about that! Thanks for the updates. Please pass along our well wishes to the patient.
