Square Wheels Posted October 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2018 I think about marathoners when I run, and the crazy speeds they run at. I typically run at 6mph, maybe a little faster on good days. The winners run more than twice that. I've set the treadmill at 10mph a few times. I can hold that for 1 minute, possibly longer if I tried, but not much. I can't imagine running 13mph for 2 hours. 1

Longjohn ★ Posted October 18, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2018 The very first indoor triathlon I did fourteen years ago the guy on the treadmill next to me was complaining that his treadmill would only do 12 mph. The gym owner said that was fast enough. He said: “but I run faster than 12 mph”. The gym owner said:”not today you won’t”. He did run the whole thing at 12 mph.
Longjohn ★ Posted October 18, 2018 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2018 I average a 9:15 pace for two miles on the treadmill or 6.5 mph. I would have to train to even be able to hold that pace for a longer run. I don’t like running enough to do that.
groupw Posted October 19, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2018 In the buildup to my first marathon, my son gave me a training program. Lots of intervals in the program. One of the last was 1 mile intervals with 1 mike easy. I got my best ever mile that day. 6:30! The rest were very low 7:00 times. Best I have maintained in a 5k was a 7:30 pace.
