The latest Mars lander will have live pictures (video?) as it lands from 2-3:30 pm on Mars.

This probe is going to be stationary and study deep into Mars' interior.

15 minutes ago, late said:

NASA deserves 10 times the funding it gets.

That way we're not waiting for a rock to show us how we're as dumb as dinosaurs.

You bet.  Even Ronald Reagan said it was the one government program that more than pays for itself by stimulating the economy - from computer chips to same-day eye surgery.

Now we rely on Russia to take our astronauts into space, China and India are organizing manned space flights, and Congress keeps cutting NASA funding.  For the first time since the 1930's, more top American scientists are going to Europe and Asia to do first-class research than there are foreign top scientists coming here!

Remember when events like this would get hours of TV news time?  Now it's mentioned in a back-page story in my newspaper and ABC has a short online story posted at 10:17 am - less than 4 hours before it occurs.

Check out the YouTube link on the video above and you see a few chat comments flying by every second - an hour before it becomes live - and the comments are from India, Turkey, Morocco, France, Brazil, etc. - with an American every once in a while.

The ABC's story's promise was false of the spacecraft: "Not one to be camera shy, its journey can be watched here."

There were no descent photos and just one shown taken right after the landing with the particle-covered dust cover still on of the horizon.

You did get a good look at the JPL Lab's workers and the moment they learned of various points in the landing: parachute deployment, heat-shield separation, landing, etc.

Supposedly, in a few hours (after 3 pm EST) there may be more pictures and videos.
