Ever won anything substantial?

I was filling out an entry for a drawing for a specialty car & realizing the futility of it, thought I'd ask the Cafe if they had ever won anything big.

I've won a TV, and a couple of golf bags at company events, and a couple of small prizes at company parties. That's about it.

How about y'all? Car? Lottery? Vacation?

Womaxx won a free trip to a Fall New Hampshire Nascar race for what turned out to be 3 of us.  We had an unlimited all areas pass for the day and she got to drive one of the Toyota Pickup trucks around the track with two drivers in the back waving to the crowd.  Youngest son and I got to ride in the back seat.  We got some free swag from Toyota.  It was a great distraction as it happened the week before her second colon cancer surgery and kept her busy.

Me.  I won a hamster in the third grade but my mom wouldn't let me keep it.

I won three small time poker tournaments in rinky-dink CO casinos.  The largest one was a bit over $1,000, then a little over $400 and a little under $400.  I moneyed in a few more in third for trivial amounts.

I am a decent poker player, but I would get eaten alive by guys who really know and professionally do poker for a living.  I was aided by the fact that all the really good players move to NV or CA to try and make a living at it.

I recently won um...2 drinking glasses. Very boring.  Over the years: A book, $30.00 in workplace raffle, 2 coffee cards.   He won a cooking pots and pans set which must been worth over $300.00 which included a cast iron roaster. He gave the whole set to me because we have enough pots and pans in Vancouver.  For sure, the whole set is being used.

A trip to Hawaii.

It was a hole in one contest as a charity event related to the Fiesta Bowl activities. $20 for 22 balls and dropped it on the 14th ball. Three that day so had to come back for one ball shoot-off  closest to hole for order of the daily prize with top prize being the trip for 2 to Hawaii. It also qualified me for the finale, 1 ball, 1 shot for $1M. It was a difficult #9 hole in front of the clubhouse that had a tiered green so couldn't hit short and let it roll, but had to drop it on the upper tier and minimal roll...all on live radio and TV news crews. I tensed up, topped the ball. No idea where it went but did see a cameraman ducking behind a tree.

For the trip, was just as expensive to buy at ticket from Phoenix to Florida to stay with grandparents, so the kids went with us to Hawaii. Stayed at the Turtle Bay Hilton along the north shore, and is one of two hotels NOT on the crowded Waikiki.

I was so upset with topping the ball that wanted to re-qualify next year, but we moved to Florida.

My oldest play online and sometimes in the tournaments.  For a while he had a sponsor who sent him to Macau to play 50/50 on the profits. It's one of the reasons he likes it overseas as one can no longer play on line in the US.

Other than wanting to  win at least $1 million lottery, it would be nice to win trip/hotel accommodation outside of my province, an airline flights pass with maybe at least 10 flights, year's worth of free groceries, gift card for clothing.  I honestly would ask for money for car value instead  of car...which is precisely what a work colleague did when he won a Lexus car.  He asked for and got $70,000 instead.  He and wifey were happy.   I would have to sell a motor boat, RV, yacht...if I won this.  I don't do any watersports.  Would I appreciate a bike win at this time?  Well, I seriously have to look for some room. We have multiple bikes in 2 Canadian homes.

And no, winning a furniture set wouldn't turn me on...except for a couch which...can't be too big.

Would I want to win a house?  I dunno...if it's too big, then I would sell it.  Why  deal with the cost of a 4 bedroom house for 2 people ...heating (remember we live in area of very cold winters for at least 4 months of year), property tax, etc.?

Yea, winning major assets is better when one is young in their 20's-30's.

HGTV gives away a huge friggin' house every year. Wo2 & I were talking about it, yeah, we'd have to sell it just to pay the taxes.

I had a buddy roll it just past the cup during an Alzheimer's charity tourney back in the '90s. There was a lot of breath holding going on.

Seriously though, I have won a few bike parts and a crockpot.  I don't gamble, so no winnings there.

Oh yeah I won a cool Cinelli hairnet and random other bike bits on preems back in my crit racing days.   Some of those lap sprints would get pretty fierce if a cool prize was on the line.  Guys would risk their lives for a freaking Silca frame pump!

I won over 2000 worth of swag in my enduro season.  I was very much on fire that year.  I forgot about that. It was a big win for me.

In years past I have won a few hundred dollars worth of stuff too.  Tons of stuff.  Lots of medals.

Bunch of years ago, the US Waterski Tour came to town.  The local radio station was giving away tickets to caller number whatever.  OK, I did win something, 4 tickets.  10 of those ticket winners each got a key.  The key would unlock a brand new Mastercraft Prostar 190.  This was 2 weeks before we were to leave to vacation at one of the best ski lakes in the Northeast, complete with 2 slalom courses.  And my Dad's boat (a terrible tow boat) was in the shop and possibly wouldn't make the trip with us.  I got one of the keys.

They lined us all up.  I told the promo director that if I won and they loaned me a ski, I'd do a great promo where the prize boat tows the winner through the slalom course where he'd get a couple buoys and crash spectacularly.  8 keys tried, 8 failed, it's down to me and another dude.  They call me, he says "win it dude, I've got no use for it".

I still hate that guy.

I just remembered I won a 50/50 raffle once.    My wife and I volunteered to work a snack bar at a HS football game. The booster president gave us each a raffle ticket for volunteering.  Well during halftime they called the winner but my wife and I were too busy to hear it.

Booster President came to us later and said let me see your tickets and sure enough I won! It was around $150 or so but I gifted it back to the program.

Wo46 won two tv's on separate occasions.

In 2011 I won the Sturgis hillclimb. The money I won didn't even pay for the gas to get there.

In 2014 I won $300 in a local hillclimb in the 250 pro class ( not bad payout for 9 seconds of work ) The same day I won $100 in the 600 pro class.
