I bought a dial indicator setup from Harbor Freight. I use it to give me comparative results when truing a wheel. +/- .005". Usually, the last thing you want to buy from a discount center is a precision instrument. I don't care if it is accurate or not, as long as it is consistent in its readings. I think I got it for under $20. Amazon sellers currently offer the thing for up to around $80..
