Further Posted December 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 6, 2018 I've been eating Ambrosia apples but they seem to be passing they're peak. What to try now ? What apple (s) have you been enjoying this year ?
Longjohn ★ Posted December 6, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 6, 2018 I made an apple crisp to take to the luncheon today. I only had six apples and it looked like it needed more fruit for the size dish I was using so I added a bag of cranberries and increased the amount of brown sugar. It turned out really good. One of the cooks asked for my recipe. 1

MickinMD ★ Posted December 6, 2018 Share #9 Posted December 6, 2018 Honey crisp of anything that has "Jon" in it: Jonathan, Jonafree, etc. A doctor wanted a young apple tree, that apparently sprouted from a seed on his grounds, cut down and hired a guy named Jonathan to do it. A branch grew up from the stump and the doctor didn't get around to getting rid of it until it bore apples. The apples tasted fantastic. He named them Jonathan Apples because they wouldn't have grown if Jonathan had done the job right! All Jonathan's today are from grafted clones of graft clones, etc. of that original tree.

sheep_herder ★ Posted December 6, 2018 Share #11 Posted December 6, 2018 I am not that big of a fan of Honey Crisp apples, but they are wonderful when dehydrated. When traveling in apple country, we enjoy trying the different varieties.
