jsharr ★ Posted December 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 6, 2018 So, as you may or may not know, I am trying to eat clean and cut down on sugar, carbs, etc. Over Thanksgiving, I did a good job of avoiding the desert table. I did have 4 cookies over the course of the day. Wojsharr makes a great pecan pie and my youngest son baked a chocolate pie. The pecan pie did not get touched so my wife put it in the freezer. Recently, my wife was complaining that no one had touched her pie! So I try to do the right thing and eat clean and healthy and she gets upset because no one, not even her, ate her pecan pie!
Longjohn ★ Posted December 6, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 6, 2018 Pecan pies are not health food but since I am trying to gain weight I’ll make the sacrifice. Send it to me.

JerrySTL ★ Posted December 6, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 6, 2018 Feed the pie to the doggie when Wojsharr is out of the house and take credit. Tell her is was delicious and, oh, the doggie needs to go to the vet. 1

Longjohn ★ Posted December 6, 2018 Share #6 Posted December 6, 2018 If nobody is going to eat the pie anyway she could have made a kale and toe foo pie.

It expresses a sense of futility about hoping to succeed or, generally, to get something--anything--done. The elaboration "You can't win for losing," with its added play on logic, was around in the 1960s. It means that losing keeps you from winning; you can't win because things keep going wrong. People would say it when something unexpected or a bit of bad luck spoiled their plans. Actually, the word 'for' may be taken out of context here. It is not used as in "the flower was for her." For also means, because of or as a result of. i.e. "He could not think for jeaslousy." Which would translate "you cannot win as a result of losing." ChrisL Posted December 6, 2018 Share #12 Posted December 6, 2018 Before my mom had her stroke she was always giving us way too much food and would complain if you didn't eat it. I'd always say I had a big lunch nibble on a little and pack it to go. I'd take what I wanted and dumped the rest. That way I wasn't over eating and mom was happy. So cut yourself a slice of pie, dump it down the garbage disposal and do you both a favor! 1
