MoseySusan Posted December 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2018 My dad’s recovery from hernia surgery isn’t going so well. I’m headed there to keep him company, play cribbage, get schooled in checkers, watch movies. Keep him from doing too much, too soon. I could use soup recipes to try while there. Nothing too complicated or too weird. He’s a beans and franks kind of guy. I have a hambone left over from thanksgiving I’ll probably make into beans and cornbread.

I sometimes make a bean soup with the same base. The base is simple, boil the bone & remove and pick the meat. Add chicken stock or bullion & more water, carrot, onion, celery, beans or peas & the picked meat. I also add nutmeg to my pea soup. I always use dried beans and do soak them all day first, not the peas tho. You have to let the pea soup simmer until the peas break down. The bean soup is ready when the beans soften. i usually make soup once a week as it's quick & easy.

Oh, I made lobster bisque a few years ago for a family get together. I spent a fortune on lobster tails at Costco, as I recall.

MoseySusan Posted December 7, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted December 7, 2018 I like pea soup without any meat, all the veggies. I think my dad will like the ham bone version. Good call, @ChrisL
