I am dealing with bp problems. I am increasing medication levels today as I was not controlled under 140/80 consistently. My PCP makes it a practice to treat people over 140/80 and that is the target I have been assigned. I really hate this and don't understand the cause. Just three years ago I had bp that a 20 yo would be comfortable with. In fact, given my age, I was worried I might have bp too low. Now it's a daily chore. I say go ahead and get a measuring tool. I've had two different ones over the last ten or so years. One electronic and one manual. The electric quit working and the valve on the manual leaks. They are just cheap ones from Walgreens.

Yes, exactly so. I am finding that age is exposing weaknesses I was not aware of.

On the bp front, I've been trying to do some reading on the topic. Blood pressure regulation in the body is very complex. Multiple systems are involved. So even if you do everything recommended for fitness and do things that are intended to protect you from high blood pressure, you still have endocrine and neurological systems that influence pressure regulation. Those things aren't necessarily influenced by healthy living. It is reasonable to conclude that medication may be necessary to simply block the results of anything that can influence your heart to increase pressure beyond healthy levels. :)

I was 140 over 90 at work

Mine is usually crazy / scary high when being checked. Just the way I am. If I know it's being checked I need to force myself to relax which is difficult. Years ago a nurse checked it and was like ?:frantics: I laughed :D Eventually it came down to 120/70 ish :)

I was 132 / 85 Monday morning at my semi annual visit to the oncologist.  that is pretty normal for me, except they didnt tell me the office had moved, and I didnt find out until I got to the old office, and had rush to the new location

I had that happen at the dentist. No note on the door or anything. I had to call them and ask where the heck they went, then they said I was late and would have to reschedule. I rescheduled all right, at a different dentist.

My BP was up when I got it taken at work.

I do not like this

The nurse loaned me her cuff to self check for a few days...in the AM

My blood pressure was 130/80 last week at my PCP and 150/110 at the Diabetes Specialist this week.  I think I was nervous at the specialists visit.

They asked me if I could arrive at the new office by 1015, which was 20-25 min away. I hustled in that direction, and they did work with me when I got there.  As usual it took longer to drive there and home than the appointment, but, that is a good thing.

I had blood pressure that high, about 20 years ago. Time to get one of the device you can use at home. Then check your BP first thing in the morning, before you get out of bed.

Then, look into lowering your BP. Get some more potassium in your diet, see if that helps. Coconut water is one way to do that. You need to be careful about it, make sure your BP med doesn't react badly with potassium.

You will want to do something about the stress. Maybe yoga before or after work. Might be a spin class, I used to do those in the winter. Just don't go to one where they have you pedal backwards. There are some genuinely awful classes out there.

Celery is good for your BP. I try to use a lot of it these days. A half dozen stalks is a good number in a dish, I like to put them in first, with the onions, to soften them up. They'll shrink after you cook them for a while.

Good luck, you can beat this.
