I think you're on to something there! In an episode of the BBC TV show "As Time Goes By," the English couple at the center of the series is in Los Angeles. Lionel, the Englishman, says to an American named Mike, "I just had a leak." The poor research by the British writers assumed Americans don't use "leak" as slang for urinate, so Mike is confused, looks at the ceiling, grabs a phone to call the hotel staff, if set straight by Lionel and then says, "Oh right, 'a leak!' I must remember that!" Lionel, tongue-in-cheek, replies, "It is the language of Shakespeare after all!" but that's a good point - there's no TAKE or TOOK involved! Lionel did NOT say he TOOK a leak. He just HAD one. In another episode he says, "I need a pee." "Leak" is mentioned at 3:25 in the video below.
