These lists are always subjective and weigh some factors differently than an individual might in evaluating where to live. But the list does get some things right, picking our very own Miles City as the best city in Montana. However, Greenville wasn't the top pic for SC, so they must not be perfect. It's close enough to be convenient to the city, but at least far enough away to have some woods nearby, or to easily allow a day trip to the Catskills. late Posted January 4, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 4, 2019 They picked Bath. On paper Bath is fantastic. But there's a reason the population is going down. Traffic can be a nightmare in the summer, it's not great for cycling, they seem to have more accidents than they should. The town lacks diversity, you will have to go other places a lot. As always, it depends on what sort of life you want. Portland is a great little city. Brunswick rocks, as a college town, it packs a lot into a small space. Bangor has it's fans, but I haven't spent much time there. Stephen King has given the town a fabulous library, an Olympic pool, and a nice clean fleet of buses that will take you to work if you don't have a car. Good place to raise kids. Maine doesn't get dangerous earthquakes, or hurricanes, we're one of the top two low crime states, and we have good health care. In fact, there are really only 3 disaster scenarios that would hurt us bad. Nuclear war, Yellowstone eruption (we're outside the bad fallout area, but we'd starve/freeze afterwards) and a tidal wave if a big chunk of Antarctica breaks off and suddenly slides into the sea.
