TrentonMakes Posted January 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2019 There seem to be a number of "negative" words that don't have a positive counterpart. Like people are disgruntled, but is anyone ever gruntled? Some people are inept, but it's hard to find someone who is ept. Others?
maddmaxx ★ Posted January 11, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 11, 2019 Women who are ept positive have only a few months to get their stuff together and find the father. Women who already have one are gruntled.

MickinMD ★ Posted January 11, 2019 Share #12 Posted January 11, 2019 Apparently the opposites of some dis-, in-, anti-, etc. words have either fallen out of use of their pronunciation changed but the dis-, etc. versions did not. I find some of the pronunciation changes surprising. For example, the first two days of the week are named after the Sun and the Moon. So we call the first one "Sunday." But we don't call the second one "Moonday" - or was Moon originally pronounced "Mon?" Eerily, in France, the Moon is called la Lune (rhyming with "Loon") but the French name of the day is Lundi - where "Lun" sounds much closer to "Mon" than Lune or Moon! And what happened to the "n" in Saturday?

Road Runner Posted January 12, 2019 Share #15 Posted January 12, 2019 I am not at all disturbed by this thread. Just the opposite. I find it very turbing. 1

Road Runner Posted January 12, 2019 Share #17 Posted January 12, 2019 RG's dirty and disheveled appearance at his job interview was unfortunate. He would have had a better chance if he had been clean and heveled.
