Randomguy Posted January 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2019 It has its moments. Observations Dick Van Dyke has the worst fake accent of all time Julie Andrews covers up a whole bundle of flaws This movie goes on weird swings that don't have anything to do with the movie This movie is much more cheerful than the new crapfest The songs go on too long, but are much better and more memorable than the new ones Anyway, it is better than I expected it to be. Road Runner Posted January 17, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2019 Some things are best left alone. Another Wizard of Oz would suck. A remake of Jaws or the Godfather couldn't compare.
Razors Edge ★ Posted January 17, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2019 I'd prefer to kiss the new one.
Kirby Posted January 18, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2019 There's a documentary on the Sherman Brothers who composed the music for the original called "The Boys" that is pretty interesting.
12string Posted January 18, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 18, 2019 The original Mary Poppins movie was a fraud. Nothing at all like the books. The new movie is closer to the second book, but still way too happy. Actually a very good movie in many ways. I took the wife to see Mary Poppins (the first) on Broadway. I was expecting to just put up with the sappy story, see some talent, have a nice weekend. Total surprise, but intermission everyone in the theater hated every character but Bert and the tuppence lady. WAY dark! And MUCH better story. But still not as dark as the books (from what I've been told)
