I bought a CX bike and use it on gravel rides & raced a gravel race last year.

We don't have gravel roads. It's why I pay taxes.

At least most of my taxes.

My CX bike does double duty as well but it's a handful.  Steep head tube and tall bottom bracket means that bike is extremely nimble and sketchy at speed.  True gravel bikes are more relaxed with lower bottom brackets.  

But damn my crosser can get around a 180 degree turn quickly!

I've had both. I prefer a gravel bike. It is much more stable at speed. I like the bigger tires and extra mounts.

SoCal has extensive trail systems but they are all in the hills.  It's a great area for mtn biking but not so much for gravel...  I have no use for a gravel bike but I do think they are cool.

I like that second video even more. Lines are getting blurred about what to label a bike. CX, gravel, mtn. Now you see All Road. Salsa used to call the Fargo a drop bar 29er. Now they put it in the All Road category.
