Yeah true but not really doable for a short layover. Each hotel has a fine dining experience but I don’t usually go to Vegas for the dining. I’m always there for work... The airport is off the strip but Mandalay Bay & Luxor are close and have good restaurants.

Parr8hed Posted February 14, 2019 Share #13 Posted February 14, 2019 I was there years ago (20??) and we ate at an off the strip casino. I want to say it was the Gold Coast". It was back when Caesar's was newish and the Bellagio had just been built. Not even sure if it was open, if it was it had just opened. Anyways the Gold Coast had a 5.99 special. T-Bone steak, salad, baked potato, green beans, bread, French fries and a desert with a cold draft beer. It wasn't great, but it sure wasn't bad. Best value I've ever had for a meal. I don't even know if that place is still there.

Wilbur ★ Posted February 14, 2019 Share #15 Posted February 14, 2019 Gordon Ramsey's Brger is a good burger joint and he saved money on the sign so it must be cheap. Actually, it is moderately high price but great burgers. Casino Royale has $1 Michelob and foot long hot dogs if you are budget minded.
team scooter Posted February 14, 2019 Share #16 Posted February 14, 2019 I think there's a Mexican restaurant and a Popeye's Chicken near the South West gates. Thats all I can remember after a long weekend in Las Vegas.

I have 5 hours between flights. I thought I would venture out, although it is in the same terminal as my outgoing flight, so it is a possibility. My wife used to travel to Vegas several times a year as she was in the trade show industry. She always had good luck playing the slots in the airport. When I started traveling to Vegas regularly I found the same. I always thought the slots were looser to give travelers a good start or end to their stay. Personally, I would just hit the Strip (like the corner at the MGM) and walk from South to North on one side - cross the road - and walk North to South. Then, back to the airport. I'd choose the wandering - exercise and people watching - to spending much time eating. Grab some food at the airport for the plane ride.

Biggest issue is we’ll have carry on bags, even if we recheck the suitcases. Not impossible, but not ideal for wondering around the streets. You can proactively scale back on your carry-on stuff, but taking what you normally have with you might be a PITA The Strip gets better after dark with some of the things like the Bellagio or the Mirage or wherever doing their shows. If you have never been to Vegas, there is definitely a lot to enjoy for free.
Prophet Zacharia Posted February 16, 2019 Author Share #24 Posted February 16, 2019 So that was a cluster. We were planning to get our bags, change terminals, check our bags then go to town. But while we had 4 hours to kill, our baggage check didn’t open until 11:15 pm PDT, and it was raining. So we weren’t about to lug two 50 lbs suitcases and carry one items into the cold, windy, rainy Vegas night. But there were no restaurants (or even kiosks) open before going through security. So it kinda sucked. Bagel sandwich on the gate side of the terminal at midnight, as everything closed here, too. but breakfast will be in Honolulu.

Any other arrangements would have had us get in really late Friday night on the West Coast, get a hotel for a few hours of sleep and get up really early for a flight to the islands... or miss most of Saturday traveling. Similar to my trip to Malaysia departing JFK at 0100 (o dark thirty). Nothing outside of security and inside everything was closed or closing as we got in. Next three meals were on the plane. Yep, nothing open in the early dawn hours in Taiwan.......next meal on the plane.
