late Posted February 23, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 23, 2019 The original hippies were making it up as they went along, and they went every which a way. The hippie movement was like any movement of the young, they were conforming to the non-conformist standard (I was one of them). Bottom line, hippie means different things to different people. But what I think of as the best of hippiedom is Wavy Gravy.

late Posted February 23, 2019 Share #13 Posted February 23, 2019 " Gravy began Seva Foundation along with spiritual leader Ram Dass and public health expert Dr. Larry Brilliant. Based in Berkeley, California, Seva is an international health organization working to build sustainable health projects in many of the globe's most under-served communities." " Gravy is also the co-founder, with his wife, of the circus and performing arts camp Camp Winnarainbow, in Laytonville, California, near the Hog Farm.[20] Until 2003, Ben & Jerry's produced an ice cream named "Wavy Gravy" (caramel-cashew-Brazil nut base with a chocolate hazelnut fudge swirl and roasted almonds) which helped drive a scholarship fund for underprivileged kids to attend Camp Winnarainbow.[21] " "... during the September 1981 Abalone Alliance-organized anti-nuclear protest, trespass/occupation and civil disobedience action at Diablo Canyon Power Plant, Gravy organized and acted as MC for a variety show that he called the "Tornado of Talent" which featured, among other performers (and after the guards had allowed an acoustic guitar to be brought into the "jail"), Jackson Browne. Wavy arrived at the holding facility dressed in a pair of bright green coveralls. After settling into his "bunk" (a thin mattress on the gym floor) he removed the coveralls to reveal a Santa Claus suit." " Gravy established the store Nobody's Business across the road from the Hog Farm,[23] reminiscent of his "Nobody for President" campaign..." You could make a case that there was only one hippie ever, and he was it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavy_Gravy
Dirtyhip Posted February 23, 2019 Share #14 Posted February 23, 2019 -OK, seriously...I believe that true hippy is a counter culture movement from the 60's. What we have now are people that are rebels at heart wanting to do something different. They want to be free of the commercialism, and slaving our life away to buy the newest gadget. I think the new hippies are the idealistic ones bucking the system, buying small houses or vans and freeing themselves from mainstream society. Some are eschewing the normal workplace schedule by choosing to have a different relationship with money. People love things retro. Including the hippy movement. 1

Page Turner Posted February 23, 2019 Share #20 Posted February 23, 2019 ...I think this guy is the most famous hippie I ever met, although I did go to a couple of events where Wavy Gravy was running around, trying to organize things with the Hog Farm.
