Airehead Posted February 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2019 I feel so snobbish but that is what I had on my bagel. It was cheaper than lox. It was good for a treat but at $17.99 a pound won't grace the Aire table often.

There are much cheaper cultured butters out there, have you tried them?
BuffJim Posted February 24, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 24, 2019 There’s an Irish one, Kerry Gold. Not sure the price but I think it’s spendy.

I've not had cultured butter from them, but their regular butter is tasty good! Not super spendy, about $4 most places around here. I have been using Trader Joe's butter because it is inexpensive and good for baking/cooking, but Kerrygold is far better if you are spreading as a condiment. I like butter.

Kerrygold is very spreadable! I could swear I remember all regular tub butter being more spreadable, but I guess I am mis-remembering, maybe thinking aboot margarine, even though we have never used the stuff. You would think that is the whole idea for the tub - otherwise, why bother? I guess it is slightly more convenient than wresting with stick butter and its wrapper. Kerrygold is at Costco too, so if you eat a lot of it, it is even cheaper there than a normal grocery store. I'm a whipped butter guy, so rarely use stick butter except when a recipe calls for it. late Posted February 24, 2019 Share #14 Posted February 24, 2019 I haven't tried cultured butter. How can I be a proper snob and let the hoi polloi get there first? Simply unacceptable.

Not all cows take to opera, and many seem very lowbrow when you get right down to it. 1

MickinMD ★ Posted February 25, 2019 Share #24 Posted February 25, 2019 I got some pretty good light butter recently. I don't know what the cows were fed but they lived in someplace called the Land O' Lakes.
shootingstar Posted February 25, 2019 Share #25 Posted February 25, 2019 Grass-fed cattle makes the cattle fattier...but would most likely give a cleaner purer butter taste. Not cows fed on silage. I consulted my dearie...the part-time cattle and pig farmer of 10 years.
