team scooter Posted February 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2019 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-mg-mgb-13/ Our son woke up early to send me this. Asked if I wanted to go halfs. He didn't notice it was already sold. And its in British Racing Green too. Showed my wife and got the judgmental over the eyeglasses look. JerrySTL ★ Posted February 26, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2019 Looks like they lowered the car plus removed the bummers. To meet the USA 5 MPH bummer standards back in those days, MB jacked up their cars and put on some ugly, heavy chrome bumpers. Ruined the handling with the higher center of gravity not to mention the looks.
SuzieQ Posted February 26, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2019 I had a yellow one with black racing stripes painted by the Dyson racing team - it didn’t make it fast ? 1
team scooter Posted February 26, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted February 26, 2019 I had a 1972. It came in Mustard Yellow but I had it painted Arrest Me Red. The '72s still had the chrome bumpers before they switched to the big black bumper car bumpers. Its the reason I have a Miata today.

I misspoke about the big chrome bumpers on the '78. They were the big black things.

team scooter Posted February 26, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted February 26, 2019 Sounds like it has some lifter noise or an exhaust leak. Interestingly, when we bought the Miata, I wanted a modern day version of an MGB. My old idea of a true roadster is no frills like power steering, power windows or AC. But having owned our fully decked out Miata for a few years now, they'll need to pry my dead non-frozen butt off its heated leather seats.
late Posted February 26, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 26, 2019 Back in the 70s, a friend had a 6 cylinder B. The handling was still crap, but it could get out of it's own way. Scooter has the right idea, get a Miata.
