Popular Post Parr8hed Posted March 16, 2019 Popular Post Share #1 Posted March 16, 2019 At the bicycle race. G got 3rd in the ITT last night. Pulled another 3rd in the RR today. We’ll see what the crit brings tomorrow. I’ve been very bored as the medic. So that’s good. 17

Green Grass Posted March 16, 2019 Share #9 Posted March 16, 2019 Great job by G. Good luck in the crit. If ever the medic is needed, it's usually at the crit. Hope not, tho...

He’s very dominant. You’ve heard me talk about him before. Second was R. He’s on G’s team. He’s younger by a year. Good Cx’er. Family of bike riders. He didn’t do the ITT Friday night. Griffin did. G’s coach instructed G & R to work together to try and limit George’s advantage. Griffin told me later that R didn’t work at all. Sat in G’s wheel the whole time and came around him at the line. So G discovered wheelsuckers today. Good lesson. G won’t work with R tomorrow in the crit at all.

My friend’s wife is writting a book about a teen cyclist. In her first draft, the protagonist is extremely talented, but cocky and doesn’t get along well with a lot of people. The book agents are making her rewrite the character to be more likeable. But to me, it’s a pretty good characterization. We all know riders like that, and now G does, too.

He has a mild speech impediment that I think makes him shy. Great kid, very nice (but slightly odd parents) but nice, honest, open. R is kinda the opposite. R’s sister took 3rd place at Nationals this year. She seems sweet. George is quick to come up to Griffin after every race and congradulate him. R is quick to run back to his dad to complain.

I know, I resisted the comment. The objective of team work here is to dethrone Numero Uno. This race has almost a predetermined winner. That leaves the real race for 2nd and 3rd spot. R is going tactical by holding the wheel of G. I would go more tactical on "R". See how he likes that. The leader position is lost. Go more tactical. Beat R. Popular Post Parr8hed Posted March 18, 2019 Author Popular Post Share #21 Posted March 18, 2019 Well the crit was more of the same today. Fairly good sized field (15-20?) It was open juniors. Only one podium for 18 and under. There were some older kids, about 4-5 of them that were super fast. They took a flyer off the front and left the 12-14 year old kids to fight it out with each other. Griffin did a lot of work. George and R were stuck out in between. Griffin got in with some strong girls and they worked well and closed the gap. Little kids all together and big kids all together. About 6 of the younger kids couldn’t hold on and fell off. It all went to shit when the older kids lapped Griffin’s group. (Only 0.5 mile laps). R had been sitting in all race and smartly jumped on the wheel of the faster kids and went with. Griffin and George didn’t have the legs to close it. R raced smart to get the “win” for the younger kids. G learned a lot today. Finished just behind George in a sprint with a super strong older girl. She nipped him at the line (I think he let her win!) but Griffin looked SOOOO strong today. He was chasing, pulling back breaks, taking pulls. It was probably as strong as I’ve seen him look. He finished closer to George than her ever has! Cross season is gonna be fun!
