Popular Post Page Turner Posted March 22, 2019 Popular Post Share #1 Posted March 22, 2019 ...is the name of the old estate garden and house that was built in the 1930's by this guy: Quote Filoli was built for Mr. and Mrs. William Bowers Bourn II, prominent San Franciscans, whose chief source of wealth was the Empire Gold Mine in Grass Valley, California. Mr. Bourn was also owner and president of the Spring Valley Water Company. https://filoli.org/about/ Anyway, it's still around and open to the public, doing a brisk business this time of the year because of the extensive gardens, the houise tours, and the Camellia and magnolia collections. They also have some impressive old wisiterias, trained up onto the walls and buildings, but those are not yet in flower. Anyhow, we drove down to the Bay on Wednesday for another reason, stayed the night, and then drove to Filoli to see the sights on Thursday. I took some pictures, and bought three sort of rare camellia plants from the gift shop, which gets in a load from Nuccio's, down in SoCal every year. I would have bought more, but three was all I thought I had room for right now, and carrying them over the summer here in pots is just a nightmare. ...are you looking at ME ? Are you LOOKING at me ? It's the main soiurce for fresh water for San Francisco and many of the surrounding communities. Modesto also draws some water out of it as it passes by them.
