Is your dentist an old man or a young woman?

It seems that all the dentists in my area are either old men or young women.  I used to have an old man dentist (near 80), but now I have a young woman dentist (in her 20's).  I like the young woman a lot, but she talks incessantly to her assistant about a bunch of unimportant crap while she is drilling on my teeth.  I am concerned she is not concentrating as much as she should.  :(

Has this ever happened to you?  Don't you think a dentist should maybe STFU and at least pretend to be interested and concerned about your tooth that he/she is in the act of partially destroying?  :o

Discus.

My old man dentist (65 YO) just retired and now I'm going to a woman dentist. Young be relative as I think she's in her 30s which would be younger than me by a few decades.

My dentist seems to be very professional but I've only had one visit so far.

Speaking of relative age, a few months ago I had two US Air Force generals (a 1-star and 2-star) hold a door open for me. As a retired enlisted aircraft mechanic, I was somewhat taken aback. However those boys looked young to me so I must have looks senile to them.

My previous dentist, Dr. Z, was only a bit older than me and an active cyclist. Great guy, wonderful dentist. Unfortunately his dentistry was too far for me to travel to when I changed careers and locations. I am currently seeing a hack, older guy, who I despise but at least the cleaning are done professionally.

My close friend is a dentist and is building a new location for her offices literally on my front door step. It will be in the shopping plaza outside the entrance to my community. I will go to her once it is complete.

So, eventually, a young woman dentist.

2 brothers and the wife of one of the brothers are the dentists in my office. The brothers are movie star handsome about mid 40s. The lady dentist is nice looking as well. I do their IT work so I know them all on a professional and somewhat personal level. Same with their techs. I do IT for several offices so had the chance to “interview” them when I was ready to make a change. Just felt most comfortable with this office.

A dude, probably in his early 40's or so. He's gotten in marathons, cycling and skiing... has at least 2 kids or something like that.  Since I've visited the clinic in my cycling gear, he sorta relates to me on fitness topics.  I go to an expensive place....am reconsidering except it's probably ANOTHER new expensive practice.

My dentist ~20yrs ago was an old man who retired. I then went to a dentist about 10 yrs older than me, switched to a different one about 15 yrs older than me, and that one just retired and sold the practice to an Asian female dentist about 10 yrs older than me.

I really like the current hygienist who does a thorough and painless job (and is cute), and she stayed during the transition between the former and current dentist. If she leaves, I will return to my prior dentist from a decade ago.

Growing up, my best fried, who was even more of a nut/moran/dolt than I was (it is possible) seemed on a path to homelessness. Instead, he became a dentist.

I had a dentist a little younger than me. He made my temporary dentures and when my gums had healed up I went back to get my permanent set made and he was gone and a cute young female was in his place. She took six weeks to make them, I think I was her first set. Her name was Linsey and she had the prettiest eyes. The teeth she made didn’t fit real well so a year later I called to make an appointment and found out she was gone.

Someone recommended a dentist to me and I went there and he redid my dentures overnight and they fit really well. A few months later he threatened a cop and he has been in jail ever since. Some day I’ll have to find another dentist.

Did you have a hard time dealing with this?

No...I was a big ego buster. I was in a room with 3 women and I wasn't wearing any pants and none of them were laughing.

My first dentist was an old man.  A semi-young male dentist took over his practice when he retired.

Then he became an old man and retired and a semi-young woman dentist took over his practice.

She's excellent - she's the family dentist for the specialist she sent me to who determined I didn't need a root canal.

But now she's pushing 50.  If I'm fortunate to live until she retires, I hope the next one will be good, too.

She's getting more helpful and more mean with age.

When she's cleaning my teeth and I grimace she says, "See what you get for not flossing and brushing down at the roots enough?"

Now she's got me using an Oral B Genius electric toothbrush with Bluetooth and and a phone app and mirror-suction cup that holds the phone so it can look at you and tell you if you're spending enough time on each third of the upper teeth and lower teeth, while it displays the 6 zones in a picture and they slowly turn from grey to white as you brush.  Brusha-brusha-brusha until the picture on the app turns all white for all 6 zones.  And it keeps a record so your dentist can see if you've been a good boy or girl.  But she says she doesn't have time to look at the record - it's up to me to make sure its good for my own benefit.
