...and I survived the Great Gas Leak of 2019!

Got off the Metro today, and ambled towards my office.  I wondered why all the construction guys were gathered on a corner, and why there were flashing blue lights on my block. Apparently, those bozos working in the building nearby nicked a gas line somehow. Anyway, we stuck around for a while hoping they would resolve it quickly, but when the backhoe showed up to start digging up the road to find the gas main shutoff, we called it a day. :( Bike ride this afternoon!

The leak happened inside a building under renovation on the 700 block of 15th Street Northwest near Pennsylvania Avenue, according to D.C. Fire and EMS.

Readings dropped to normal levels around 11 a.m. and authorities are ventilating the affected buildings.

Fire officials say the leak was likely caused by construction and they’re working with Washington Gas to repair it.

There is no word on when repairs might end.

Pennsylvania Avenue remains closed between 15th and 17th streets Northwest.
