Ron Jeremy :D and I met BB King at his book signing.

On the first one, I am not sure that is the sort of "big" that jsharr was asking about....  then again, that dude is hard to read, and you may have hit the nail on the head, as it were.

Oh man, I worked on a studio... Jack Nicholson, Sandra Bullock, Neve Campbell, Alex Trebek, Pat Sajack, Most of the cast of Married with Children (Ed O’Neil, Katie Segal & David Faustino, Ted McGinley), Ed Asner,  Harrison Ford, Barry Manilow...  I had interactions with Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, Vanna White and many others but I never actually “met them” as in spoke to them like I did the others.

In the military, Nancy Reagan, I had Princess Diana walk within 2’ of me but I was standing at attention.. President Reagan gave me a thumbs up once, got mixed up in a riot for Helmut Kohl...

Sports, met Greg Lemond twice, Jim Everret (former Rams QB), met Mark Gubicza at spring training this year, bumped into Kobe Bryant at a local softball field, said hello as he passed and he nodded but didn’t really bother him.

Yeah, I bet you were in more ways than one!

I almost saved the British PM from drowning once, and early one morning chatted with Putin beside a lake.

Met Crosby one time early in his career and my son attended hockey school with Nathan Mackinnon when they were both young.

As far as TV, I have met a lot if Top Chef contestants and eaten a lot of their food.  But mostly that is me tracking them down cause I am a bit of a groupie

I was offered the chance to wear my stereotypical red uniform and do "security" backstage at the oscars one year but turned it down

First met him when I was a little kid and he was stumping for gov in my hometown.

Second time was when my uncle was working with him at the Carter center. He was wearing overalls.

Why was your uncle wearing overalls?

I went to school with Dave Taylor of the Kings. The guy made everyone else on the ice look like they were wearing galoshes.

I never "met" any celebrities other than a few local TV people.

Back in my working days, I flew a lot.  On layovers in various airports around the country, I walked past and gawked at Henry Kissinger, Terry Bradshaw, and Robert Parrish.  Kissinger had two bodyguards.  Bradshaw was alone and pulling his own carry-on.  Parrish appeared to be waiting for someone.

I probably flew with a few celebrities as well, but I was always in coach, so I would never have known.  I heard a few rumors.  :)

@Allen and you have history. I am pretty sure you are just pouting and jealous that Stipe hit on him.

Pbot behaves more civil. You know it and I know it.

Yes, I have a man crush on Allen.  He does cool stuff.  He will slap me down if he needs to.  He has mad photoshop skills.

I've met just about every skater but they're mostly only "famous" to other skating fans - maybe Dorothy Hamill or Scott Hamilton cross over to general awareness.

For actors,  I'd say Dick Van Dyke was probably the most famous (or at least the most legendary to me).  I was at an NBC sponsored party at the Super Bowl and there weren't that many tables.  Dick and his son asked if they could sit at the open seats at our table to eat dinner.  OJ Simpson was also at the party with a pretty blonde woman wearing OJ's football jersey.  (The Bills were playing Dallas in the Super Bowl).  This was a few months after his divorce from Nicole, so I don't think it was her.

For basketball fans "of a certain age", I can add John Paxson to the list.  For football, I'd list Dave Duerson who is probably most associated with bringing attention to CTE and the NFL.

Aside from the previously mentioned Niki Lauda, I've met a number of the former Hartford Whalers, especially Kevin Dineen who went on to become a coach in the NHL.  Dineen drove one of my RC cars and an auto show in Hartford one year and after the team finished practice returned to introduce himself to my kids and womaxx.  Over the years my cars have been driven by professional wrestlers and even a Playboy Playmate Lynne Austin who was also the Hooters spokesperson.  I've met several professional soccer players, once having handed a ball to Coby Jones while I was standing on the touch line during a US National Game.

....I shook hands with Lyndon Johnson once. That was like two years before he tried to get me killed in Asia.  If I had known where it was going, I might not have chosen to shake his hand.  And that guy was a BIG celebrity, back right before he elected to become universally despised.  I was 6'2"" and he towered over me. In fairness to Johnson, he was out of office and some other guy was President by the time my number came up.  But he set the wheels in motion.

Other than that, I can't think of anyone except @Dottie.

Billy Joel, Christ’s Brinkley and Dan Rather. I was working for the feds doing forestry research. We would visit plots located throughout NY. On Long Island we had one on Joel’s property. After explains what we were doing he invited us to stop back at their house after we were done. Hung out for an hour talking. Nice folks. Same job in the Catskills got to meet Rather. Didn’t chat long but seemed like a good guy. His house was solid concrete.

Football player and actor Ben Davidson at RAGBRAI. My son and I sat down for pancakes across from a really tall guy with a great mustache. It took me a few moments to realize who he was. He'd done RAGBRAI a few times before. Told us a great story about pancakes and football. Seems that the traditional pre-game food was steak and eggs. One day a player (forget the name) asked for pancakes instead. That broke tradition and if they would have lost, the pancakes would have been blamed. Before the next game more people asked for pancakes and they won again. Same with the next game. Ben thought that the pancakes actually gave the team an advantage over having a stomach full of steak during the games. This was before much was known about sports nutrition and things like Gatorade.

I saw Iowa native and actor Tom Arnold also doing RAGBRAI that year. He would get off his bike and do some standup comedy at little towns. He was challenged by Mr. Pork Chop to a yelling contest. Arnold said that anyone who was married to Roseanne knew how to yell. Mr. Pork Chop still won.

Among sports celebrities- Tom Osborne and Tom Rathman. Our record store was in Rathman’s hometown. He liked stopping by when he was in town because  we wouldn’t bug him about football.

Bob Varsha, David Hobbs and Steve Machett. They were coming down from the broadcast booth at the end of qualifying day for the USGP in Indy. I just shook there hands and said how much I enjoyed their chemistry.

A few B level musicians. Webb Wilder was the most willing to visit. I have gotten auto graphs from Lake Street Dive. Mike Calabrese is very outgoing as was Bridget Kearney once I asked her about how her running was going. Rachel Price is one of the most beautiful women I have ever met but seems very shy off stage.

I've met Howie Long and Todd Heap.  They are both 6'5".  That's pretty big.

Back in the day, when I worked for the foam ball company, we did a deal for Jim Everett, the former NFL QB.  This is while he was playing.  We had a party while the Rams were in Dallas and Jim showed up with some of his linemen.   One of my buddies had a football that had been autographed by quite a few big names, like Staubach.  So Lance asks Jim to sign his ball, but I guess he did not ask the linemen.  One of them took umbrage to this slight, and after the party was over, Lance found a very nice, clean signature from Bob Penis.  To this day he thinks I am the one that did that, but there is no way I could write as nicely as whoever signed his ball!!!

I can add Roger Staubach, Dave Manders and Walt Garrison from the Dallas Cowboys.

...I see your Dallas Cowboys from the good years, and raise you Pat Buchanan's sister, Bay Buchanan.  Many years after I escorted her to the prom, she became the Treasurer of the United States, and signed some sort of currency here. I forget which bill it was.

I grew up hip deep in the swamp, pal.:)
