Parr8hed Posted June 10, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 10, 2014 So on a day like today where it is gray, overcast, misting rain (but not pouring down) I realize that it is prudent to turn your headlights on when driving. Many people are douches and do not do this for some reason. But I have always lived by the rule Wipers on, Headlights on. So if my Accord is equipped with daytime driving lights are they acceptable for that rule? Or should I still turn on my headlights?
Former member Posted June 10, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 10, 2014 Driving lights should be fine, but why not turn on the regular ones? It can't hurt.
KrAzY Posted June 10, 2014 Share #3 Posted June 10, 2014 Daytime/auto set lights are acceptable for any rule. I look at it as "they are on, so you can see me" kind of thing. If you feel the need for better lights, hook up 4-8 flood lights across the top and front of your vehicle for better lighting.

Square Wheels Posted June 10, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2014 This is one of those odd questions for me. My last car and current car both have daytime running lights and automatic headlights. I haven't turned my lights in in over 4 years now.
Former member Posted June 10, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2014 I'm worried I might burn them out early.maybe I shouldn't run my taillight during the day, because eventually the battery won't hold a charge for very long.

So people behind you can't see you any better which is part of it. It's about increasing visibility, and honestly those coming up behind you are the ones that need to see you the most.
Parr8hed Posted June 10, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted June 10, 2014 I would not wear that nice set of bibs while are riding either. It might wear out the chamois and then you would never get to wear them!

Indy Posted June 10, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 10, 2014 Good point. But what if it makes my tailights go out sooner than they should? Replace the bulbs and be glad you don't have a bloody German car. I've been messing around with the wife's for a couple months now after replacing bulbs trying to get everything to stay connected up correctly and working. It's an awesome looking design, but pain in the ass to deal with because everything is so unnecessarily complicated. I have a true love/hate relationship with German cars going. On the plus side, the Touareg really does a nice job off road. On par if not better than my old Cherokee I used to have.
Road Runner Posted June 10, 2014 Share #13 Posted June 10, 2014 Just don't drive in the rain. Problem solved. My Mustang is seven years old and has never been in the rain.

They all look to be a buch of individual LED lights. I am sure that it will be a PITA not to mention expensive. The right headlight is not too bad, the left is a PITA because of where the battery and air cleaner sit. Headlights are the only lights I have had to change so far in 150,000 miles. Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted June 10, 2014 Share #15 Posted June 10, 2014 You should move to NY. We have a law that requires people to turn on their headlight if they turn on their wipers. Then again I'm not sure you'd be any happier, because even though we have such a nice law it doesn't mean people turn their lights on to comply with it. Longjohn ★ Posted June 10, 2014 Share #16 Posted June 10, 2014 Before there was a law I used to always turn mine on, until I got a ticket in Ohio for a burned out headlight.
