Randomguy Posted June 8, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2019 A friend is a little freaked out about the pesticides used in growing strawberrries and said he is done with them. I have read that, but still buy the non-organic ones because of the price. Am I going to die?
sheep_herder ★ Posted June 8, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2019 I still eat them, but then again, I am old.

I am thinking the vitamin and fiber content of strawberries outweigh the pesticide concern. Maybe. I like strawberries. Btw, they want $7/pint for them at farmer's markets here, now that seems crazy to me.
Digital_photog ★ Posted June 8, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 8, 2019 Our strawberries are just starting to get red. Should have a few in a couple days. Will I die since we didn't use any weed killer or bug killer to keep them pest free? We also fed them bull sh*t to fertilize them.
maddmaxx ★ Posted June 8, 2019 Share #5 Posted June 8, 2019 There have been a crapton of them available in the supermarkets here. So many in fact that they are almost always buy one get one free so the price has been pretty good. I don't know where they are coming from but I'm starting to get sick of them. Locals won't be available till late summer.

Some of the mass shipped ones are getting better and they are aboot 1/4 to 1/3 that price.

I probably should start peeling them but I am too lazy and it is too messy.

Airehead Posted June 8, 2019 Share #11 Posted June 8, 2019 They are not in season in Rochester but they are here at the shore. I bought a flat at the organic farm joint. 5 bucks a quart. Sharing with family by making a fruit salad for today’s party.

late Posted June 8, 2019 Share #13 Posted June 8, 2019 I wash most of my fruit. Just put a couple drops of detergent into a bowl and fill with water. Add fruit, stir, rinse.
