late Posted June 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2019 I gave up on my old preamp, ordered a Schiit Saga S. If it isn't pretty good, I'm an idiot.

You should order something from these guys and see if you can tell one from the other.

The Saga is 300 bucks, I don't do bluetooth, and it's going into an old school stereo with a 200 watt amp. If I could I'd swap the amp for something more powerful, the speakers are real power hogs. But if I had that much, I'd be in the market for new speakers first. They are good, they cost a couple grand, but that was about 20 years ago. Speaker technology has advanced a lot over the last couple decades. I also sold my record player and records. I stopped using it. The thing about speakers is that they are about the style of presentation you like, more than anything else. Another important thing is the room. I have wood walls, and that makes the room bright. One popular speaker with a bright top end would be like getting drilled by the dentist, in my room.
