Popular Post Rattlecan ★ Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Share #1 Posted June 22, 2019 The story behind what it's doing there is a long one. Today was new car day. Yay! We dealt the old 2008 Kia Rondo, which we have had since new, and put 222.000 trouble free kilometers on. The Rondo is no longer made, but we have had two Kia's in a row with no issues, so we are somewhat brand loyal now. The new one is a 2019 Sportage, which I'm sure we are going to love. I had an appointment with the local U Haul depot to install a receiver hitch, which we need to mount our bike rack. We need it done now, because we are due to leave on a trip Sunday morning, and we go nowhere without our bikes. Anyhoo, I dropped it off in time for the 2:00 o'clock installation appointment, and one of their employees gave me a ride home, a short 5 minute jaunt. They were to call me when it was done, and someone would come and get me. When 4:30 came, and no call. I started to get uneasy. I tried calling, but all I got was the old,"all agents are busy", and then listened to 5 minutes of U Haul commercials with nobody picking up the phone. So, since there is a bus that runs every half hour that goes pretty much from my door to theirs, I decided to scoot over and check out the situation. When I saw the car still parked where I put it with no hitch installed, I realized my uneasy hunch was well founded. Long story short, one of the two installers failed to show up for work, and the other had some urgent matter that required his attention elsewhere, so no hitch today. Some frantic calls were made, and the manager agreed to come in tomorrow on his day off and do the installation. Meanwhile, I need a vehicle for the morning, so they gave me the van to do my running around. I really hope this comes together tomorrow, because we do no wish to delay our departure. Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of this adventure.

Well, they said something about taking the labor charge off the bill, so they are serious about making it right. I didn't include a wiring kit in the purchase, because I don't need it right now, but I was intending to install one myself at a later date, because I will need it to pull the utility trailer. I kind of mentioned that maybe doing something to help with that would give me the warm fuzzies.

Yeah, that's what the NASA interplanetary guys said to the Mars orbital guys. Probe only had 62% of the velocity for orbital insertion. Splash one probe. 1 1

Popular Post team scooter Posted June 22, 2019 Popular Post Share #11 Posted June 22, 2019 Congrats on the new car. Now take advantage of temporarily having a heavy duty cargo van and pic up your spring garden plants, top soil, mulch, help your neighbor's move their couch, take scrap metal to the scrap yard or some such. 4 1
JerrySTL ★ Posted June 22, 2019 Share #12 Posted June 22, 2019 All my kids, their spouses, and I have had one or more KIAs or Hyundais. It's amazing how trouble free they have been. WoJSTL has been the only holdout as she drives a Nissan. Are you getting a 2" hitch? I wish that my car could take one as it would probably stop a lot of the swaying of my bike rack. I have to use a 2" adapter as the rack is 2" and that probably makes the problem worse.
Dottleshead ★ Posted June 22, 2019 Share #13 Posted June 22, 2019 That is quite the story. I'm surprised they gave you a van for your inconvenience. Pretty awesome, actually.

When I left my parents home I used my dad’s van and kept it for a few months. It was sort of fun. It was a nice ford van that was previously a florists one and had windows.

No. Worked today, trusted that U Haul would get their act together, which, fortunately they did. They took the labour charge off the bill, as promised, so I'm not feeling too bad about the situation. Bikes are locked and loaded, bags are packed, we roll at dawn. Or, 9 o'clock, whichever is later. ? 4

Rattlecan ★ Posted June 25, 2019 Author Share #26 Posted June 25, 2019 So a couple of nice rides so far. Yesterday we rode from the park into Springfield on the bike path. Today we hauled the bikes to Miamisburg and rode the Miami River trail. No internet in the park so updating from Walmart. Guess they are good for something. 2 1
Prophet Zacharia Posted June 25, 2019 Share #27 Posted June 25, 2019 My recent vacation apartment rental parking garage said 6’4” height limit , so I was glad I did not have my Thule box on top of my SUV. Although my 6’10” child said there were no worries walking though the garage. 1

Further Posted June 27, 2019 Share #31 Posted June 27, 2019 I had plain jane, contractor vans for decades, most versatile vehicles ever built. I was a sworn pickup driver, but security issues forced me to vandom, and I never looked back. Cept for the little pickups, loved my S10's
