maddmaxx ★ Posted July 27, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 27, 2019 Folks are getting injured and killed all across the continent on e-scooters. From the news stories I've seen they are inexperienced riders who don't take precautions and drive like yahoos in traffic. It's bad enough to be in traffic even if you take care. Further Posted July 28, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 28, 2019 When my daughter the nurse was working in Myrtle Beach she commented on the number of moped riders that were getting really badly hurt. They don't need a license up to 50cc, so lose your license to a DUI, get a scooter, and lose your life. She also said that car / golf cart incidents were ugly and becoming very common. 1
BuffJim Posted July 28, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 28, 2019 Great topic. I definitely got the feeling that the Indianapolis e-scooter scene was a giant accident waiting to happen. Too many people going too fast in total disregard of traffic laws.
Wilbur ★ Posted July 28, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 28, 2019 I am ok with them endangering themselves. I would have a real problem if they were endangering others, especially pedestrians.

And even if it was unavoidable, and not your fault, having someone's face splattered on your windshield is going to be an ugly memory
petitepedal ★ Posted July 28, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 28, 2019 I think I mentioned a guy I know sustained a serious brain injury in an e-scooter accident...and this was a co.mon sense kinda guy..in his early 60's

According to the article, "Users can ride only on sidewalks, pathways and in bike lanes. It is illegal to ride these single-user devices on city roads. maddmaxx ★ Posted July 28, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 28, 2019 Sure, put them on sidewalks with pedestrians. What could go wrong.

They are used pretty liberally on the sidewalks in Europe but I have no idea as to accident rates.

My cousin and her husband both retired from NSA (National Security Agency at Fort Meade), where they began as work-study seniors in high school so they had nice pensions, and moved from near Annapolis to Myrtle Beach. They didn't realize a house right next to the golf course would take as much abuse as it did from errant balls. Eventually, they missed their two daughters in Western Maryland and moved to Frederick, MD.
Randomguy Posted July 29, 2019 Share #12 Posted July 29, 2019 Not to pile on, but did anyone actually think this would be even relatively safe? Investors are and always were going to lose everything.
