People were bailing before the 'infamous upgrade that took the site down for several days'. It was badly managed and the upgrade pushed many over the edge. BP was an OK mod but was difficult to deal with at times. I'm sure it had to do with the corporate structure. They did not like fun. The reality is the Bicycling made as much revenue off of us forum users as SW does today. 1

I had stopped posting there, in part for this reason (but also because I went quite a few years without really riding much - so I didn't feel like I had much to say). I appreciate SW's work in keeping this place up - and everyone for keeping it fun, mostly. Somewhere I saved a screenshot of an old Love Forum page - I wonder what happened to that...

I had an old PC that was still logged in and when that crashed I figured I’d be done. The forum crashed before my computer did... maddmaxx ★ Posted August 1, 2019 Share #36 Posted August 1, 2019 How did Square Wheels begin? It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents — except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.
