It was a blast.  Sailed on a Catalina 38 with an old friend.  Ryan got to go as well and had a blast.  He helped out when ever he could.

We were racing in a Dallas Race Week, an annual charity regatta on Lake Ray Hubbard in Dallas.  Course was just an upwind downwind course which did not suit our boat well, but we still finished third in the main and jib fleet.

Third, yeah right.  It looks like you fell behind.

Those are the spinaker boats that LOVE to race on windward / leeward courses.  They point higher, carry smaller jibs and go downwind faster under spinnaker.  We did okay and finished close to the first and second place boats in our fleet, a Sonar 23 and an Olsen 25, both small, light, dry sailed (not kept in the water) go fast boats, not 38 foot cruisers with dirty bottoms, showers, heads, inboard diesels with non folding props, etc.

That right there sounds like a whole bunch of excuses.  Put the camera down and row faster.

And you still finished third?

Good heavens, man, what happened to your grappling hooks, chain shot through their rigging, cutlass-and-pistol boarding parties, and sweeping their decks with swivel guns loaded with grape shot?

I can see you're not really serious about this whole sailing the high seas stuff.

is Lake Ray Hubbard big enough that you are out of sight of land, or is it just a clear horizon in the direction the camera is pointing?

Look under the sail to the right in the pic where Ryan is at the bow and you can see the tree line. The course ran from the I-30 bridge near DalRock Road up the lake to the dam and back down to the bridge.
