Razors Edge ★ Posted August 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2019 ...on their own or their kid's weddings? We may have spent that if you include the honeymoon, but definitely not remotely close to that for the wedding. I find $10k nuts, but have known the plenty who have spent multiple times that with $50k no longer being "outlandish". Beyond a WTF, I still can only say, "It's your money..." late Posted August 13, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2019 We spent a few hundred bucks, and that includes everything, even the license and honeymoon. Kids ought to be saving for a home, parents should know better. 1
Zephyr Posted August 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2019 No I dont think so. Ours for sure not. D2s in a couple weeks may be around that but only if you count travel. One set of grandparents are not well enough to fly so the wedding is going to be out east, so we need to fly the whole crew out and get a couple places to stay. That is the biggest chunk of moola

Yeah we covered most of the cost (my SIL also picked up a good sized chunk). We actually gave them $10K for the wedding and put another $3K or so in incidental costs associated to the wedding. Like flying my MIL out and putting her up in a hotel twice... Rehearsal dinner, new dress, tux for me & son. The costs add up quickly... If you recall they also had an “India” wedding which his parents (well dad) required and so they paid for. He probably put down $4-5 K on that wedding neither which neither my daughter or SIL wanted...
ChrisL Posted August 13, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2019 Oh and my wife & I took a road trip to Vegas and got married by Elvis! We didn’t have rings not enough cash to stay over so we drove out, got married and drove back. Highlight of the day (other than getting married) was putting our last $20 in slots. I asked my wife if she wanted to eat or gamble. Gamble, we can eat when we get home. We split the $20 and started plunking quarters in the machine. I was getting tired of the machine eating my coins so put the last $.75 in there, pulled the handle and won $50!!!! Alright now we can eat!!! So we had a nice dinner and drove home. 2 1
Indy Posted August 13, 2019 Share #6 Posted August 13, 2019 Nope and if Finley is planning on getting married anytime soon, I'll be going hunting, not paying for a wedding. 1
sheep_herder ★ Posted August 13, 2019 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2019 No, but then again that was almost 57 years ago. It was a small church wedding in Baytown, Texas. One of the biggest hooplas was convincing my mother that my wife wanted a German Chocolate cake for the wedding cake. The German Chocolate cake was very tasty. 3
Parr8hed Posted August 13, 2019 Share #8 Posted August 13, 2019 That's part of the "deal" with Emmy. When she marries it will be to a college coach's son. Part of her scholarship deal will be that he pays for wedding.

Page Turner Posted August 13, 2019 Share #10 Posted August 13, 2019 .. our honeymoon was a trip to the state fair on bikes. They were not $5000 bikes, and all day fair tickets were only 8 bucks each. So no.
maddmaxx ★ Posted August 13, 2019 Share #11 Posted August 13, 2019 Fortunately no. When my oldest son was married in Malaysia hie wife's parents picked up the whole tab. That was good because it cost us about $6000 to go there with a free place to stay. When I mentioned to osomaxx that Crazy Rich Asians was an interesting movie, his comment was ......yes, I lived it.
12string Posted August 13, 2019 Share #12 Posted August 13, 2019 We paid for our own wedding, 36 years ago it was about $3K. Big party, we both have large families. When my son got married, they paid for some, her dad paid some. We offered up $10K to pay the rest. Ended up paying only for the honeymoon to Europe, under $4K, kept telling them to splurge but they tried to keep it as cheap as they could. My oldest daughter (if she ever deems a man worthy) already has her wedding planned on the cheap. The youngest might decide to tell us some day that oh by the way we eloped.

12string Posted August 13, 2019 Share #14 Posted August 13, 2019 It's a stupid thing we do here in the NorthEast, spend WAY too much on weddings. $25K is pretty common, it goes up from there. My wife's cousin who loves to entertain spent more than that just on the band for his daughter's wedding. Crazy, but he could afford it.

Popular Post Tizeye Posted August 13, 2019 Popular Post Share #19 Posted August 13, 2019 Thankfully, daughter decided to get married in the Canary Island which saved us a bundle. I think all total, excluding our airfare which I upgraded to 1st class due to wife's concussion, total was around $5000 which was same amount spent on son's. That included the wedding and reception/dinner in a cave and everything. Even the 2 bedroom apartment we stayed in, 1 block from the ocean was only $79/night. Later found out that the musician we got was one of the top and in most demand on the island as the clerk at the front desk of the apartments when seeing the pictures was "how did you get him!". If she had had it in the States or Switzerland, it would have been well over $20K, so I saved a bundle of money. They paid for their honeymoon which was a trip to Thailand and Vietnam. It was a destination wedding that her friends were going "How can we top this!" 5

Funny story, in a warped sort of way This guy, Jason, has a lot of money, they will fly to Vegas for the weekend if the spirit moves him. So they're in Vegas & some kind of porn convention is going on, they are wandering around taking in the sights. Lots of 'take a photo with a star' opportunities. So Jason has a pic of his wife with Ron Jeremy...
Wilbur ★ Posted August 15, 2019 Share #27 Posted August 15, 2019 Close to 10K, if not over, on my own wedding. Lots of relatives and we paid the out of towners hotels. We will probably spend about that on my oldest daughters. Again, to help out of town guests. A friend of the same daughter is currently spending about 120K. The sad part is her parents are remortgaging to do it. That is insane.
