Forum Administrator Posted September 10, 2019 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2019 New york peeps.... Cycling from Niagara Falls to Albany is on my short list for next summer. Any thoughts? I haven't found many reviews of the trail online. Vermont is another option and Utah is a distant third only because of logistics of getting there and what-not. Longjohn ★ Posted September 10, 2019 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2019 I’m not NY, I live in Pennsylvania. My wife wants me to do adventures as part of a group so I did the official New York State ride. They do it once a year and limit the ride to 500 riders. Usually no problem getting in if you register early. They truck your gear and feed you breakfast and dinner. A great organization. One of the most fun rides I’ve done. 1

The_Karen_Cooper_Incident Posted September 10, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2019 If you do decided on Erie, you can crash at my place. The trail is right up the street. You can sleep with Meep.

The plan is to go in July, but a few days after the official tour. I like the self contained stuff. I am assuming the markings will still be on the road so I don’t get lost. Airehead Posted September 10, 2019 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2019 I have done the trip LJ spoke of multiple times both as a guest and as a volunteer. Great mix of music, history and riding. No frills meals but everyone is nice.

Airehead Posted September 10, 2019 Share #8 Posted September 10, 2019 First time I did it as a fundraiser for Airedale Rescue. Old fashioned website here http://www.alldogssite.com/rollingforescue061.html. Go to the bottom and click and you will see stuff about each day. If you have the patience. Airehead Posted September 10, 2019 Share #9 Posted September 10, 2019 Most of the special stops are free with your fees. So really not free but you know what I mean. The trail is better now and fewer road miles so way fewer hills. Of course pointing out hardships made for many donations which was good.

Airehead Posted September 10, 2019 Share #11 Posted September 10, 2019 The rest stops are also free and hearty. We never actually bought lunch because of these stops. Breakfast was good. 6 dinners. I remember one being plain but all were hearty.

Airehead Posted September 10, 2019 Share #13 Posted September 10, 2019 Sag by bike I mean. But you don’t get in until like 6 pm. I disliked that but the families at the rear were very fun.

I would have never signed up for it but my wife hates when I go off on a week long ride by myself. She is afraid something will happen and they will never find the body. I planned ahead for this ride so I had lots of cash. I drove to Albany on Friday and got a motel, parked my car at the rail station in the morning and rode the shuttle to Buffalo. When I finished the ride my car was right there.

I haven’t worried for his multi-month long trips in New Zealand, across North America, etc. I am slightly worried for him in Italy next year...staying at place not far from Rome because it was decided by also son and folks that Tuscany is too expensive during summer.
