Yea, I know... that was his later stuff.  When he went through his "artsy" phase.  Most of Indiana was like WTF man, but since you're John Fucking Mellencamp we'll let you slide.  

His early stuff like Hurts so Good and Jack and Diane was in the early 80's I think?  (Edit 1982 was American Fool and Uh Huh was 83).  Those were the biggies.  Scarecrow was later, 1985.  That one had Small town and some other good stuff on it.  

And Hey, don't forget Larry Fucking Bird.  I thought he was the patron saint of Indiana?

A well crafted lyric is a thing of beauty.

My very favorite lyric is from a Dallas band that came "that" close to making it out of Dallas back in the Edie Brickell and New Bohemians era.

Nick Brisco of Fever in the Funkhouse wrote the lyric "walking on water takes very light feet"
