Popular Post shootingstar Posted November 10, 2019 Popular Post Share #1 Posted November 10, 2019 Almost 2 yrs. ago, I wrote to a national outdoor sports gear and clothing store chain. I bitched that their women's clothing colour selections were crappy dull and mud colours...that didn't jive with changing demographics of their customers especially in big and medium cities...more non-white women who wouldn't wear puke colours against their face colour. Since having very dark brown/black hair and yellow /golden skin tones, are often not conducive dun/dull or puke colours, I told them to stock clearer, some brighter and jewel colour shades for women. I got a $50.00 store coupon ...and promptly used it to pay for a Terry saddle to replace my broken bike saddle. Today, I saw this saddle in another catalog. It reminded me of what I did. The store did /does for next seasons, stock women's apparel in lighter, clearer and happier colours. I used the latter adjective --happier, brighter colours. This is how I changed the consumer world for 1 national chain. The end. 4

Randomguy Posted November 10, 2019 Share #3 Posted November 10, 2019 Chicks dig brighter colors generally, shouldn't everybody know that?

Yea, but getting off bike, one doesn't still need to look like crap after a shower. And then sitting down at a restaurant. The national sporting gear and apparel chains are smarter in their marketing and products: to look younger, at least for women over 40....wear pseudo sportswear, crop pant tights, hip fitness jacket, etc. You know what I mean. I really mean that. In our organization (12,000 employees) on casual Fridays or in depts. where it's more casual due to nature of job, women will tend to wear fitness wear at work (tights will mean a long tunic/shirt to cover bum), etc.
Wilbur ★ Posted November 10, 2019 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2019 Retailers both set and react to trends. Something tells me sales numbers spoke much louder than your letter. Not to take away because input is great. They didn't change their buying practices based on one letter though. That isn't how retail works. late Posted November 10, 2019 Share #7 Posted November 10, 2019 Decades ago, I got my wife a cycling jacket from an internet discount place, STP. It had been furiously expensive, even there, but at a triple discount, it was worth it. It is one of the best cycling jackets I've ever seen. You want better, get ready to cough up serious coin. Fast forward a decade, we're sitting have coffee in Italy, and one of the group is from NYC and in fashion. She also thought it was great. Back then there was gaudy and demure, and not much in between. Rapha hadn't even started making cycling gear for women, for example. I digress. I loathe black cycling clothing. Nothing says kill me now like a black jacket, now does it? I really don't like gaudy, and that's the whole point of team clothing and the army of imitators. I just looked at a few expensive websites, and tacky is still popular. As is black. But I don't like drab, either. If someone knows of a company that does make attractive cycling clothing for women, I'd like to know about it. It'd make a nice Xmas present.
