Next wave QB's face off Sunday: most entertaining NFL game?

It's been a lot of fun watching Lamar Jackson play this year and his next game involves another running QB which may make the game twice as entertaining:

At 1 pm EST on Sunday 11/17, the Houston Texans and QB DeSean Watson come to Baltimore to play the favored (4.5 pts) Baltimore Ravens and QB Lamar Jackson.

The two QB's are among the "next wave" of QB's that run a lot as well as pass, where they run like Michael Vick did but pass a lot better.

in 2016, when Jackson QB'd Louisville and Watson QB'd Clemson, they met in what may be a similar style of play on Sunday:

It was Oct. 1, 2016 when No. 3-ranked Louisville took on No. 5-ranked Clemson in Death Valley. As broadcaster Chris Fowler said at the start of the game, it was the “new sensation” Lamar Jackson versus the “steely veteran” Deshaun Watson.

The quarterbacks put on an absolute show. Jackson threw for 295 yards, ran for 162 yards and scored three touchdowns. Watson threw for 306, tossed five touchdowns and ran for 91.

In the end, Jackson and Louisville fell just one yard short of a first down and three yards short of scoring the go-ahead touchdown in the final seconds, swallowing a bitter 42-36 defeat. Jackson hasn’t forgotten that loss.

“He was just dicing us down the field. He was just doing Deshaun Watson things – scoring touchdowns, making incredible throws, and they came out with the victory,” Jackson said.

“I can’t wait to see him again.”

That game three years ago was a preview of the next wave to hit the NFL’s shoreline. Stationary pocket passers are aging out. Dual-threat quarterbacks are in.

Three years later and with both players now in the NFL, the script leading into Sunday’s game at M&T Bank Stadium is very much the same. The Ravens and Texans are two of the AFC’s top teams. Jackson and Watson are the leaders of their respective teams and top contenders for the league’s most prestigious award.

Jackson ended up winning the Heisman Trophy after that 2016 season. Watson was the runner-up.

End of 1st half, Ravens 14, Texans 0.  The Ravens GOAT Kicker Justin Tucker missed wide right on a 42 yard FG attempt, his first miss all year.  The Texans Kicker Fairbairn missed a similar distance FG wide right at the end of the half at the same goal post.  Wind?

Lamar Jackson had runs of 18, 12, and 12 yards and 2 Passing TDs.

Watson: sacked 5 times in the first half including a strip sack. No place to throw, no place to run on most plays.  Shaken up on last sack with 39 sec. left in 1st half but still playing.

P.S.  The Texans has 102 yds in 1st half, the lowest ever in Watson's career.  Jackson threw a TD pass to Ingram 1st drive of Q3: 21-0.  Watson hasn't lost any of the 32 NFL games he's played by 2 scores or more.  He was just sacked for the 6th time.

After what happened to Tua yesterday, one would think Harbaugh might want to cut back on Lamar's running.  If Lamar gets injured, the Ravens are done.

As many have noted and former NFL QB Phil Simms pointed out before the game, Lamar's running leaves him in control - he wasn't tackled on any of those runs which ended out of bounds.  Simms says he's safer running than staying in the pocket and getting hit from behind, etc.

He just broke about 5 tackles on a 39 yard run and was tackled, though not a hard tackle.  A Texan is down on the play, probably twisted his ankle trying to keep up with Jackson's sudden shiftiness.

On the other hand, Watson has been sacked 6 times now and was slow getting up from the 5th one!
