Square Wheels Posted December 1, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2019 I spend about 15+ hours a week in the car part of my weekly commute, not fun. Yesterday I spent 8 hours driving to and from my sisters for a 1 year old birthday party. Traffic was ridiculous. Today brought daughter back to school, just under 4 hours round trip. Plus quick drives to OTF yesterday and yoga this morning. It has been a long weekend, back to my regular 15+ hours tomorrow. Lots more if we get any snow, this is New England, and everyone loses their mind as if it's their first time driving in the snow. 1 1

It was nice. Plus she came over this morning with her brother for pancake Sunday. That too was nice. Her other brother lives in Texas.
shootingstar Posted December 1, 2019 Share #4 Posted December 1, 2019 Are you planning your retirement to do less driving? Might be awhile for you before that time?

Airehead Posted December 1, 2019 Share #6 Posted December 1, 2019 I agree. I hate driving even into town.

Retirement is about 15 years away. As much as I love SoCal this is so much us. 20 minutes and a dozen traffic lights to drive 1.5 miles to the grocery store. It’s maddening. Fortunately my current work commute is opposite traffic so it’s an easy 20 minute drive but like you I drove 2.5-3 hours a day commuting 40 miles for ages. You need to find a better way to get places. Bikes and/or mass transit might be your best option. I find working from home is ideal.
Further Posted December 1, 2019 Share #12 Posted December 1, 2019 My commute is down to about 15 minutes. Mileage wise it would be bicyclable, traffic wise it would be suicide, not many cars, but they are going fast on a narrow rural road.

AirwickWithCheese Posted December 2, 2019 Share #14 Posted December 2, 2019 Driving in a VW cabriolet convertible is pure joy. It always makes me sad to reach my destination. I've had to splice my REO Speedwagon greatest hits cassette tape 3 dozen times but otherwise it's a perfect time capsule of 1991
