shootingstar Posted December 15, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 15, 2019 I was just told my mother will have heart pacemaker implanted later this week. Does one "feel" the pacemaker inside self? By the way, she was scheduled 2 wks. ago for this surgery. It was not a hugely long wait. This can be Canada's public health care system.
maddmaxx ★ Posted December 15, 2019 Share #2 Posted December 15, 2019 Yes. It is installed in a pocket beneath the skin and is probably visible on the outside as a lump more or less in the shape of the device. That information is based on people I know having pacemaker/defibrillators installed. A pacemaker by itself may be a bit smaller.

Last person I knew with one, it was quite visible and he did feel it act when he had arrhythmia. It was not a defib, just a pacemaker. I guess when things get out of sync, you can feel it. The gentleman sitting next to me at work had a combo with defib. It went off at work twice. I think the pacemaker part was to get his heart back to normal after that. He said it was like getting kicked and then you realized what just happened and it was like getting kicked harder. He did live both times though.
