I broke a guitar string, happens all the time.  I ordered some new ones.  No rush.  They only cost 9.85 (free with points).  They can get here in a week or two, or I could stop by Guitar Center on the way to my car and get some tomorrow.

Does anyone really use the 80 dollar delivery option for a 10 dollar item?

When I was the parts manager at a Chevy dealership many years ago the dealership was rebuilding a car that had been wrecked. I had found all the body parts locally but I needed a set of headers for a 409 engine. They were rare but I located a set somewhere out west. It was the only thing that was keeping them from finishing this car. I called and ordered the part and was asked what kind of shipping I wanted. The owner of the dealership was standing right there so I asked him. He said the fastest way. I told them the fastest way and they said “air freight?” I told the yes. They arrived in two days with hundreds of dollars in freight charges. Wow did I catch heck for that. I told them I was told the fastest way. They said but we thought you knew not to order car parts by air. :dontknow:

The inventor's son has stated that it was named for the birthday of the inventor's wife, Ruth, on April the 9th (rendered in the American style with the month first as "4/09").[1] The company, however, claims that it was named as the 409th compound tested by the inventors. Other claimed origins for the name include 409 being the telephone area code where it was invented (area code 409, which serves southeastern Texas, was not introduced until 1983); the birthday of some other person, such as the inventor's daughter; or a reference to a powerful Chevrolet car engine used in the 1960s.

The 409 was a strange engine for Chevy to build. It wasn’t like any other engine they made. Everything about it was different. Even the rocker arm cover gaskets looked like something crazy. It was a good engine but was different and didn’t catch on.

I thought that the 348 and 409 were similar. Also they took something like 10 quarts of oil.

The 348, 409 and early 427 were in the same engine family.  They were somewhat strange in that the combustion chamber was inside the block as opposed to machined into the head.  The head only had valves with no machined combustion chamber.

Later in the mid 60's GM released a new 427, based only somewhat on the 409/427 family.  The combustion chamber was moved into the head in a more traditional manner.  Where the earlier 409/427 were limited in their RPM range by the in block combustion chamber and resulting bad valve angles, the latter 427 had much more "breathing" capacity and in performance form could operate at a much higher RPM.

Back in the 90' s I worked a part time job at a place called "the sportsman's guide" catalog orders..army surplus tacky stuff and actually some nice stuff..and ammo. I usually started around Thanksgiving and worked til March.  It never failed..the guy calling December 23 ordering the "camo lingerie" for $4.99 for the love of his life...paying $25 for overnight shipping
