Road Runner Posted December 27, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2019 I am currently in the process. Takes a while as I have 18 windows and doors. I also clean the trim around the windows and caulk as needed. As far as I can tell, no one else in my neighborhood ever cleans their windows. Is window cleaning passe or do I just live in a neighborhood of sloths?

donkpow Posted December 27, 2019 Share #4 Posted December 27, 2019 If by regularly you mean 10-15 years, then yes. 1 3
jsharr ★ Posted December 27, 2019 Share #5 Posted December 27, 2019 Yes. I have window washer bucket, mop and squeegee. I buy the window cleaning concentrate and mix up a bucket of hot water and cleaning the outsides. Inside I use microfiber towel and Invisible glass spray. Takes a few hours to clean them all.

I clean them when I replace the wornout screens, so probably more often than 10-15 years, but way less than annually. My wife, though, may clean the main ones (outside surface) more frequently but I don't track it. The inside portion gets cleaned more often, but also by my wife, so a big ??? to me. 1
Longjohn ★ Posted December 27, 2019 Share #7 Posted December 27, 2019 The Amish are often seen washing their windows. I have stupid design Anderson windows. To remove the screens to wash the outside of the windows you have to unlock them from the inside, then go outside and hope they haven't fallen out yet, remove them, wash the windows, put the screens back in and have someone latch them back in place. I think I’ve done it twice. I wash the inside as needed. 1

Next time, you should opt for the "smart design" windows. They cost more, but they are worth it.

About half the time, the little latch that locks the windows in place breaks or falls off.

The one had windows that hinged down the other house had windows you could easily remove for cleaning from the inside. This house was three years old when I bought it and it already had these stupid windows. I don’t replace anything that still works even if it is a PITA. maddmaxx ★ Posted December 27, 2019 Share #12 Posted December 27, 2019 If you'd stop cleaning your windows you wouldn't find it necessary to be bad mouthing your neighbors all the time.
groupw Posted December 27, 2019 Share #13 Posted December 27, 2019 WoW usually cleans them in spring and fall at least in the main part of the house. The bedrooms have the screens on the inside of the windows so all dust, bugs etc fall on the carpet or beds when you pull them off to clean the inside! I think the whole house is going to get some shop vac/compressor/screen repair love if we get a nice weekend soon!

JerrySTL ★ Posted December 28, 2019 Share #19 Posted December 28, 2019 WoJSTL does the house windows a few times a year. We had new windows installed last year and they are easy to clean. I do the car windows at least once every 2 weeks. I'm strange that way.

Road Runner Posted December 28, 2019 Author Share #23 Posted December 28, 2019 It is much more better now as I gaze out my windows. It is more work than it seems it should be, but the final result is worth it. Now I have to finish up by doing some touch-up caulking to the window trim pieces.
