Verizon: one month reprieve

My landline phone went dead a week ago. Verizon said the switch would include switching from copper lines to fiberoptic cable and my cheap DSL Internet would no longer work, so I signed up for FIOS phone & Internet with an option to cheaply add FIOS TV later if I decide I want it.  But the "latest" date they could give me for the fix was Dec. 31.

Someone fixed the phone, everything works now, so I wanted to cancel FIOS until I get my basement rearranged so they can put the equipment where I want it.  But I was told I could NOT cancel the fiberoptic cable - but I could postpone it to Jan. 31.

A month works! Now I can breathe again.
