sheep_herder ★ Posted January 2, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 2, 2020 I went part way up with friends before our Park-to-Park bicycle ride in 2004. I've not been back. I am sure Dottie has driven it, probably in the past few years.

Dottleshead ★ Posted January 2, 2020 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2020 A local guide was telling me that they've had fatal bike wrecks on that road. One time a guy got going so fast that during a hairpin curve -- his brakes failed him and he went flying to his death some 500 feet below.
Kirby ★ Posted January 2, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 2, 2020 The road still wasn't open when I went to Glacier. One of the reasons to return.

It's worth it and if you do -- assuming you are driving west to east -- make sure you wrap around the park and enter Many Glaciers on the eastern side. As powerful as the Going to the Sun Road is, I missed Many Glaciers entrance the first time and that was a mistake.

dinneR ★ Posted January 2, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 2, 2020 I've driven it, but not ridden it. I think I'd only ride it on a bike if it were closed to cars. GTNP is closed to cars from late March to May 1 every year. This year we had Nov as well. It's pretty sweet to ride in a NP with no cars to worry about. I got ride Zion this year too.
Dottleshead ★ Posted January 2, 2020 Share #9 Posted January 2, 2020 Yeah there were bikers that were riding it. It can be done but there is zero room for clearance. I think it'd be a big risk. Not for me.
