BuffJim Posted May 6, 2020 Share #62 Posted May 6, 2020 I got a good picture of an Osprey and some rare for this region Ibises in Sunday. I’ll have to get off my fanny and transfer them to my computer.

BuffJim Posted June 8, 2020 Share #65 Posted June 8, 2020 Oriole, Yellow Warbler, and Blue birds from yesterday. The smaller birds that flit around a lot like Warblers are harder to catch. I also saw my first of year Cedar Waxwings yesterday, but couldn’t get a picture. 2
Tizeye Posted August 1, 2020 Share #66 Posted August 1, 2020 Finally getting around to processing these. Was hoping one would return with a fish to feed the hatchling, but no such luck. Try again next year. This nest is downtown Winter Park on top of a utility pole. Across the street in a parking lot and the 4th (top) floor is eyelevel with the nest. Try again next year. 1

shootingstar Posted August 1, 2020 Share #68 Posted August 1, 2020 I have whole blog post from a day trip where bald eagles gather annually around Dec.-Jan. in provincial park. https://cyclewriteblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/01/bald-eagle-in-wilderness-in-our-neighbourhood-brackendale-eagles-provincial-park-and-vancouver/ 2

If not a 'backup' camera body, definitely a lens. Switched from Nikon and now shoot with a Sony a7rIII, and yes the a7rIV is tempting but the 42mp sensor on the III is sufficient. Definitely could use a longer lens for wildlife/sports etc as my longest, and the one used for the photo, is a 70-200 - but the 42mp sensor rescues with significant cropping capability. Minimal cropping was required for the above, removing wires at base of nest and on some, the treeline/sky was distracting.

MoseySusan Posted August 2, 2020 Author Share #80 Posted August 2, 2020 My neighbor was shooting at the birds perched on the fence between our two back yards. So, I moved the seed feeder and suet box away from that part of the yard. A few birds have found the seeds, but the woodpeckers and flock of tits are still searching around where the suet used to be located.

They’ll find it. I’m always amazed at how birds find food - even when it doesn’t look like what they’re “engineered” to eat.

What sort of weapon were they using? Anything more than a plastic dart gun would be something to notify the local law enforcement about.

MoseySusan Posted August 2, 2020 Author Share #88 Posted August 2, 2020 The feeders are outside the window over the kitchen sink. It’s not an ideal location, being in the sun nearly all day. But it will keep the birds safe from a bb in the backside.

jdc2000 Posted August 2, 2020 Share #90 Posted August 2, 2020 An air rifle would be illegal to use in a residential neighborhood. There are alternatives to prevent birds from sitting on the fence. If it were me, I would send local law enforcement over to have a talk with them.

jdc2000 Posted August 3, 2020 Share #92 Posted August 3, 2020 https://www.absolutebirdcontrol.com/blog/keep-birds-off-fence/ Also, most of the birds they are shooting at are likely protected. They could get a fine for killing many species.
