MickinMD ★ Posted January 6, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2020 Tomorrow night, we may get 1" of snow on the grass and virtually nothing on the streets because the temps have been mostly above freezing. The TV news will make it sound like the apocalypse is occurring. We've already had from TV, "Even if snow doesn't accumulate on the roads, it might freeze overnight." - despite the fact the temps are forecast to be between 51F and 32F from Mon through Wednesday afternoon, including nights. So I'm going to do my usual Tuesday shopping a day early, today. Hopefully, I'll beat the panicked crowds. Of course, the only pictures they'll show during the event are in the mountainous/hilly regions of NW Maryland, not those of Central Maryland where the TV stations call home and 90% of viewers live and drive. Indy Posted January 6, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2020 No, you are doing it wrong. If you don't need eggs and bread, you don't go to the grocery the day or days before the snow, but go the day of. It's not busy then so it's great. 1

TrentonMakes Posted January 6, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 6, 2020 I really enjoy driving in the snow... just sucks I have to share the road with all those knuckleheads out there who don't know what they're doing. Growing up in NYS you learned how to handle snow driving because big snows were happening every week. I have fond memories of my dad letting me take his Ranger pickup out in a snowstorm - to take a girl out on a date for pizza.
Razors Edge ★ Posted January 6, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 6, 2020 2 hours ago, MickinMD said: The TV news I think we found the problem! Local TV news is fairly obsolete, so they have one firm leg to stand on still (weather & traffic) and another one is teetering (local sports). They keep going to the tried and true "tease the weather (or traffic) and keep folks watching through the commercial break" routine. Now, they have expanded it to a brief reveal at the beginning with a 24 hr forecast, toss in the teaser for later, then tease some more for the ten day forecast. My suggestion? Apps on your phone. I never feel the need to run to the grocery store when checking my weather apps.

Further Posted January 7, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 7, 2020 Driving to work yesterday morning, the hill tops were snow covered (1/2 an inch, but hey, it was white) the valleys were just wet. Talking less than 50 feet of elevation change. It was kind of neat.

There's a bar near my home that's crowded when it snows - apparently filled with those who don't have to show up for work the next day. I can't blame them - I was one of them in my younger days.
