Popular Post Zephyr Posted January 10, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted January 10, 2020 wolfie.mp4 Meet Grampa, one of our old local resident Wolf-eels here. We noticed over Christmas that his wife was gone (they mate for long term) so my son and I thought we would deliver him some dinner. The weird colour is because we are about 75' down and he is not fussy about the camera lights so I had shut them off(you can see at one point I moved a light and hit the switch.) As you can see, he is docile and use to divers and human interaction. He is about 7' long wolfie.mp4 3

donkpow Posted January 10, 2020 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2020 Ah, anarhichadidae. "The wolffish, also known as sea wolves, are a family, Anarhichadidae, of perciform fish. There are three types of wolffish: The spotted Wolffish, the Atlantic Wolffish, and finally the Northern Atlantic Wolffish. They are native to cold waters of the northern Atlantic and Pacific oceans, where they live on the continental shelf and slope, to depths of about 600 m (2,000 ft). They are bottom-feeders, eating hard-shelled invertebrates such as clams, echinoderms, and crustaceans, which they crush with their strong canine and molar teeth. The longest species, Anarrhichthys ocellatus, grows to more than 2 m (6.6 ft) in length." http://www.nanfa.org/fif/wolfeel.shtml

We used to spend summers camping in Nanoose or Bowser. Lots of fishing done in a 12 foot car top boat between Nanoose and Lasqueti. Back then, we just walked out in the water around Bowser and harvested dinner in the form of oysters, Dungenous crab and abalone
