Razors Edge ★ Posted January 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2020 On Strava, I follow a few pros and other interesting cyclists, and two of the pros are Virginia natives - Joe Dombrowski & Ben King. Joe is relatively close nearby, so I know his cycling "beat" - usually headed west out to Shenandoah, and I actually passed him riding in the opposite direction a few years ago when I was riding on Skyline. We waved at each other Anyway, Ben lives and rides mainly out of Charlottesville, so I don't really know his turf except he also often heads west towards Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge Parkway as well. We decided to visit our friends down in the Charlottesville area last weekend, and we did a few short hikes since the weather was so mild. I decided to record yesterday's hike just so I could get a good idea of where we were (very twisty country roads that are super unfamiliar to me). Then, this morning, while updating the info on Strava, I looked over the map and got an idea of where we were. I also noticed Ben had done a ride yesterday, so I clicked on it. B-O-O-M! He LITERALLY rode to the park we were hiking at a short time after we finished our hike. I had seen three cyclists gathering nearby and a solo roadie riding towards them, and thought the area we were in would be fun, undulating terrain to ride on, and even commented to my wife about the descent into our hike's parking lot that it would be a good addition to a ride. Apparently, others agree that it is a neat place. I found it amazing that the time I decide to check out his route (which often vary in their paths), that he was actually right where I was. Odd but neat. His ride with the highlighted area we were hiking at: Our little hike:

Then there was the entire Rabobank team sighting before the ToC. We see a lot of pro’s in SoCal between Nov & Jan.
donkpow Posted January 14, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2020 I wouldn't know a pro if I saw one. I do know, if you ride frequently with a lot of miles each day, it's good to have a variety of routes at your disposal.
