I don't work for the Post Office, unfortunately.

Uh, fortunately for your town!

Jeebus, it is a FEDERAL holiday.  One of only 10!  Tell your bosses to lighten up a bit and that the job market is a employee's best friend!

  • Wednesday, January 1 - New Year’s Day
  • Monday, January 20 - Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Monday, February 17 - Washington’s Birthday
  • Monday, May 25 - Memorial Day
  • Friday, July 3 - Independence Day
  • Monday, September 7 - Labor Day
  • Monday, October 12 - Columbus Day
  • Wednesday, November 11 - Veterans Day
  • Thursday, November 26 - Thanksgiving Day
  • Friday, December 25 - Christmas Day

We trade some of those for the week between Christmas and New year -- which I would rather have.

Just find a better employer and get it ALL!

I have to say, a day off in the dismal & yucky months is very nice.  In the pleasant months, there is ample time to get out and enjoy things with longer days and better weather. In winter, it's nice to just kick back and relax (and get paid).

So don't bother going in on Mon. Enjoy some coffee and stare wistfully out your front window.  When the boss calls to ask where you are, tell him "It is a Federal holiday, duh!"

I'm salary. As long as my work is getting done I can take off whatever I want. But I probably need the day. Off. I need the day off!

You can't shut the whole town down! I remember working fast food as a teen and getting paid time and a half for working on those holidays. On all of those holidays the grocery stores, gas stations, hospitals, etc. are open and on most of them the high school sports I was paid to coach held practices, games, etc. as expected by my bosses.

My company's standard holidays are:

• New Year’s Day

• Memorial Day

• July 4th

• Labor Day

• Thanksgiving Day

• Day After Thanksgiving

• Christmas Eve

• Christmas Day

• Holiday Shutdown

We basically get the whole week of Christmas to New Years off.  So I can't complain too much about not getting Monday off.  But I'm going to complain anyway.

I don't get Monday off!!

  • Monday, 3rd wk. in May - Victoria Day
  • July 1 - Canada Day
  •  lst Mon. in Aug. - Civic Holiday
  •  1st Mon. September - Labor Day
  •  2nd Mon. October - Thanksgiving in Canada
  • Wednesday, November 11 - Remembrance Day
  • Friday, December 25 - Christmas Day
  •  Dec. 26 - Boxing Day  -very much holiday for many organizations.

At the forge they traded some of those days for the first couple days of deer season. When they started hiring millennials they whined about having the longest Holliday of the year during crappy weather. As the old timers die off or retire the youngsters will probably try to change it to something else. I always looked forward to Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Tuesday all off work.

This is what I get. I always feel a little guilty about the March day off as it’s not a holiday anyone else recognizes, but it’s an a replacement for “Presidents Day”. I’m working it this year, anyway.

January 1 - New Year’s Day

3rd Monday in Jan MLK Day

2nd Friday in March “Great American’ Day

Last Monday in May Memorial Day

July 4

1st Mon. September - Labor Day

Last Thursday in November - Thanksgiving

Black Friday

Dec 24 Xmas Eve (this year we also got 12/23)

Friday, December 25 - Christmas Day

What the heck is 'Great American Day'?  Is this cryptic wording for Couch Day?

I have a vacation day on Monday, but it's not a regular holiday for the company (although you can take it as a floater holiday).  However, the company is arranging a number of volunteer service opportunities, so if you want, you can choose to work on a number of projects for the community and have it count as a work day.
