Road Runner Posted July 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2014 The rain is causing massive wrecks, even BEFORE the cobblestones! Chris Froome twice! Two of the original nine cobblestone sections have been deleted by race officials.

Road Runner Posted July 9, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted July 9, 2014 Alberto the favorite now? I guess Sky wishes they hadn't left Wiggins off the team now.

TrentonMakes Posted July 9, 2014 Share #6 Posted July 9, 2014 amazing. So much was made of the cobbles but there were so many crashes even before they got there... Very sad to see the defending champion taken out, no matter who it is. I was going to say Contador's road to the top of the podium just got easier - but I think it's better to save such statements until today's stage is through. TrentonMakes Posted July 9, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 9, 2014 holy cow! Contador lost almost three minutes! I can only assume he was extra wary of the conditions, and/or has supreme confidence that he can beat Nibali in the mountains. Or the TT, if it comes to that. I think he can make up some time on Nibali in the ITT but I see Astana having a better TTT than Tinoff, call the TT's a wash.
Road Runner Posted July 9, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted July 9, 2014 Lots of drama, but I think this stage hurts the Tour overall. JMO, of course. If you are a NASCAR fan and you like to see people crashing, don't miss Stage 5.

TrentonMakes Posted July 9, 2014 Share #16 Posted July 9, 2014 I just looked through the route trying to find out when the TTT was, and struck out. Guess that explains it. There hasn't been a TTT in quite a few years now, yes?
Road Runner Posted July 9, 2014 Author Share #17 Posted July 9, 2014 the rain soaked streets caused most of the problems, not the cobbles. Some of the riders still attribute it to the cobble stage, because they were riding different bikes, different tires and lower tire pressures. Road Runner Posted July 9, 2014 Author Share #18 Posted July 9, 2014 Froome, like another talented rider I know, hit a barrier in the road. That was the crash that sent him out. Same for that other guy.

Some riders are talking out of their asses. In wet roads, lower tire pressures(and wider tires) are preferred.
Former member Posted July 9, 2014 Share #20 Posted July 9, 2014 Froome, like another rider I know with poor technique , hit a barrier in the road. That was the crash that sent him out. Same for that other guy. Keep your head up so you can see where you are going. It will also improve your balance.

Road Runner Posted July 9, 2014 Author Share #22 Posted July 9, 2014 You know, I mentioned yesterday that Froome rides with his head down. I wonder if that caused him to hit the barrier?

I didn't see anyone else hit the clearly marked barrier.
