Popular Post Kirby Posted February 16, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted February 16, 2020 I took an early flight home from North Carolina a few weeks ago so that I'd have most of the day to unpack, do laundry and get ready for work the next day. But much to my annoyance, my car got rear ended while I was driving home. The young guy who hit me was very sweet and apologetic, and I felt bad for him, but it was frustrating to have all my plans change so quickly. My fender was banged up and hanging off, and his air bag went off, but nobody appeared hurt which was good. The accident happened not too far from the dealer I've used for service, so I drove there and they arranged to send it to their body shop. I got a rental car and was on my way, but hours after I'd planned. I've had the rental for the last three weeks and it's always a bit unnerving because I'm not used to where all the controls are and how things are set up. Plus I didn't want to get too comfortable and leave a lot of things in the rental, so I put the garage opener in my purse. Much to my dismay, on two different days, I thought I forgot to close the garage and woke up with having left the garage door up all night . It's unnerving because who knows what animals wandered in, but also because the door to the house was unlocked all night. I finally realized that when I had the garage opener in my purse, it would get jostled around and ended up opening the garage door. Once I realized that, I was careful and double checked the garage each night. I got my car back yesterday, and I'm glad that the insurance company was actually pretty easy to deal with. The rental was probably better (certainly newer) than my car, but it's nice to be back with all my own stuff. 6 1

MickinMD Posted February 16, 2020 Share #6 Posted February 16, 2020 Did you have to pay for any of the car rental? I thought I was stuck for part of a rental during a similar accident, but eventually got it back. When my car was similarly rear-ended last April, I decided to let my State Farm Insurance handle it rather than go through his Progressive Insurance company because my agent has gone way out his way for me several times. The downside was that, until Progressive paid State Farm, I had to pay my $100 deductible plus 20% of the rental. I thought I was stuck with the rental 20% ($64) but later contacted Progressive about the $100 I hadn't gotten yet from State Farm and they told me I was also getting $64 from them to cover my share of the rental. That was sort of a bonus, because I had the rental two extra days beyond my car's repair:: I had my Honda dealer do the air-bag recall I had been putting off while it was being repaired When the rental car company originally picked me up at the repair shop, their driver asked me what kind of rental car I might want. I asked, "What about this one?" and I got it. The rental was a 2019 Subaru Forester and I loved it. I was absolutely amazed with the safety, etc. equipment that warns you about crossing road lines, tilting your head like you're falling asleep, etc. It also has a great ride. Reaearching it later I found it was one of the top-3 rated mid-sized SUV's and the top rated for safety.
Kirby Posted February 16, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted February 16, 2020 I talked to my agent for advice since I wasn't sure what to do, but the other driver's insurance paid for everything except the last day of the rental. My car was ready Friday afternoon, but I didn't pick it up until Saturday and they paid for the rental only until my car was available. The other driver's insurance paid for the repair and the rental car directly, so I didn't have to come out of pocket for that. 2

This made me feel pretty good. My car was ready Friday afternoon, but I didn't pick it up until Saturday and they paid for the rental only until my car was available. This made me feel badly, but is not unreasonable. Thinking this made me feel magnanimous. The other driver's insurance paid for the repair and the rental car directly, so I didn't have to come out of pocket for that. This made me feel great. ...just some editorial suggestions. Your writing style is unique, and I'd hate to see it get lost because of some unfortunate incident like this.
jsharr Posted February 16, 2020 Share #9 Posted February 16, 2020 You need to get the fancy wifi garage door doohickie that turns you phone into a remote. it tells you if your garage is open or closed at a glance.
