wish they just simply offer their own security

Like many CAnadians, we just see Harry and Meghan as 2 rich celebrity people.  That's  all.  https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/harry-meghan-security-costs-rcmp-canada-1.5478022

Wish they offer to just simply dip into Daddy's gift fund to them, to spend on their own private security.

They need to understand how people normally live....and get protected privately.

Except they aren’t normal people.  Canada is still part of the Empire right. As such they need protection as nobody  will pay a ransom for you, they will for Harry.  Nobody will make a political statement by whacking you but it will make a hell of a statement if he gets drilled. A bomb goes off in front of his favorite coffee shop a lot of canucks are gonna get shredded.

The spend for their security may not sit well for you but your Govt shouldn’t let them run amok regardless of their desire for privacy.

The Commonwealth affiliation is kinda weak nowadays and has been for many decades.   What the Queen does whenever she comes to Canada to visit....is very much ceremonial and in good faith in keeping good relations .but at arm's length.  The Royal Family has zero involvement in our politics, all our issues, they barely understand native rights issues...

Harry is born with a silver spoon and is getting his own rude shocks of what it means to no longer attend functlons as a member of Her Majesty's family.

I don't feel any more sorry for their need for security than for ie. singer Sarah MacLaughlin who lives somewhere in Whistler or thereabouts with her children.

I get what you're saying..  but with the virus, stock market gyrations and recent national freight railway line blockades by the native Indian groups and other supports...most Canadians right now  aren't even thinking about Meghan and Harry in Canada.  And the world right now, is truly concerned about other bigger stuff.

I think the bigger issue is right or wrong, silver or plastic spoon their presence without protection not only puts themselves at risk but the Canadians around them and so is deserving of State Paid protection.

Yes they can afford their own protection but private security can’t adequately protect them. Maybe in a few years when the hoopla settles down.

I agree with you about this.  They knew what the wanted to do with their lives, and they are moving on.  Maybe they will learn how people normally live, but I doubt it, because they probably have access to WAY more money than a normal person.

They moved out, they should be on their own.

Just wait... sometime soon they will probably move to the US, and your problem is solved.

It's said they will NOT move to the US because the US is virtually the only nation in the world that charges citizens and permanent residents income taxes on money earned outside the USA.  That means they'd have to declare income from royal funds in Britain for U.S. income tax purposes!

I agree they need organized, Country-coordinated security. But they either should foot the bill themselves or have England/the Royal Family pay the bill. This isn’t a political visit, the host country shouldn’t assume the costs of providing security.

I've never heard CAnadians discuss the topic of Bryan Adams or Ryan Reynolds or Celine Dion relating to any sort of security or the like.  You guys have living royalty on your currency!  His grandmom! Soon, his BROTHER will be on your 20!

And now they are living in LA.

At least they most likely will need to pay for their own security in the US

There are lots of other celebrities who could also be kidnapped and they pay for their own security.  Harry and Megan can easily pay for the security themselves on top of which they have resigned from their status of major royalty as of March 31.

Now that Harry and Megan are now living in Los Angeles, they've announced that they've already arranged their own security.

This.

My daughter, living full time in Switzerland and working for a non-US business has to pay US taxes in addition to Swiss taxes. While given credit for Swiss taxes paid, the fact that still owes the excess to the US says a lot about how "high" European taxes. Obviously as married filing separately rather than joint.  They can't even have a joint checking account as it becomes a liability for the bank with the account subject to U S Treasury accounting rules on international accounts that banks have to comply with.
