BuffJim Posted February 29, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 29, 2020 When it’s on a weekday and you’re paid on salary. It’s like working for free. But this year it’s gonna be awesome. An extra day to goof off and take a nap in the afternoon. 1

But this year it’s gonna be awesome. An extra day to goof off and take a nap in the afternoon. It all depends on how many weekend days there are in the year. In any consecutive 364 day period (7 x 52 = 364), you have 5 x 52 = 260 weekdays and 2 x 52 = 104 weekend days because it's exactly 52 weeks. So the first 364 days of the year, no matter what day of the week the year begins on and no matter if it's leap year or not, have 260 weekdays and 104 weekend days. Whether we luck out and get an extra weekend day or two with the 365th day and, in leap years, 366th day, depends on the days when December ends. The 365th and 366th days this year are Dec. 30th and Dec. 31st and they are on Wednesday and Thursday. December 31st is often a day off, but that happens every year for those so fortunate. In that case Dec. 30 is the culprit in leap year. So even though Feb. 29th is a Saturday, we still end up with an extra weekday because of leap year! Of course, leap year pushes the following year's end of December two days closer to ending on a weekend, so it all balances out in the end.
